It doesn't take long to reach downtown Darkwood from Diggers Tavern and Bellingen YHA – Belfry Guesthouse (although with beds as cosy as these, you shouldn't be surprised if you end up running a bit behind schedule!)
Don't panic if you're still hunting for a place to stay in Darkwood. There's always the Bellingen Valley Lodge, 25 kilometres away from central Darkwood.
But don't just stop there. Take an extra day or two to experience some of the fabulous attractions and activities that the wider New South Wales region has to offer. Hone your landscape photography game by checking out some of New South Wales' incredible rural landscapes, beaches, coastal plains and mountains. History museums are a few more tourist hotspots worth whipping out your camera for. Additionally, if you’ve always wanted to go snowboarding, you'll have the chance to in this corner of Australia.
It's well known that Aussies are pretty laid back, so consider chilling out a little longer and going to the Raleigh Winery and The Honey Place in Raleigh, 35 kilometres to the east of Darkwood. If you'd like to stay in Raleigh, look into the rates at the Reflections Holiday Parks Urunga and Bellinger River Tourist Park. 40 kilometres to the southeast of Darkwood you can also stay at Nambucca Heads, which is home to the Marcel Towers Holiday Apartments and Reflections Holiday Parks Nambucca Heads. If you stay in Nambucca Heads, be sure to check out the Headland Historical Museum and the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club.
You'll find some awesome visitor attractions in Coffs Harbour. Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve, Coffs Harbour Marina and Diggers Beach are up there with the best. This regional centre is located 50 kilometres east of Darkwood and has a population of 26,000. Coffs Jetty Pier and Solitary Island Aquarium are a couple more sights that are sure to offer up some choice photo ops. The Pacific Towers Beach Resort and Pacific Marina Apartments are some of the recommended accommodations in Coffs Harbour.
Ever had to spend a night on the airport floor cos you got way too excited and didn't book your hotel? Save yourself a cricked neck and snap up a room at the Jetty Focus or the SCU Village. Both aren't far from Coffs Harbour Airport, which is 45 kilometres from the centre of town.
