Holidays in Calliope

Sick of scrolling through other people's holiday snaps while you're munching on your brekkie? Then book a flight to Calliope and start your days among the awesome beaches, rainforest and tablelands of Queensland.

It lies 1,250 kilometres north of Canberra, the capital city of Australia.

Be sure to go for a picnic at Agnes Water Beach, 75 kilometres to the east.

The nearby localities of River Ranch and West Stowe are worth visiting. They're located 7 kilometres northwest and 15 kilometres northwest away, respectively. Jump in a car and find out what they're about!

Transform your travels through this part of the world into an unforgettable experience with a bit of hiking or horse riding. They're both well-liked outdoor activities here.

If the kids have had enough of sightseeing, why not spend a relaxed day shore fishing or beach combing?

Have you thought about doing some guided nature walks and wildlife spotting tours? Listen to your friendly tour guide as you explore the best of what the area has on offer.

Not only is sky diving a phenomenal way to get sweeping views of the landscapes below, it also offers thrills, excitement and the chance to glide through the sky like a bird!

Keen for some fun on the water? Then slip on your sunscreen and have a go at some swimming or snorkeling.

It's difficult to say just what you'll see inside the region's craft workshops, but you can be certain it's going to be fascinating!

If you were to ask some of the locals about activities in the surrounding area, they'll often suggest the lovely farms.

There's a world full of surprising flavours waiting to two-step across your taste buds in Queensland. With plenty of delectable things to gorge on, all you need to bring along is your appetite — and perhaps a pair of stretchy slacks.

If you're scanning a menu, there's a good chance you'll come across dishes featuring beef or bush tucker. They're two ingredients which are commonly used in the cooking here.

No self-respecting food lover would visit Calliope without eating one or two of the signature dishes, such as salt and pepper squid and meat pie.

Travel calories don't count, right? So it's a great excuse to satisfy your sugar cravings with some peach melba, a favourite dessert.

Good news, beer enthusiasts. You'll be able to find a few winning brews to swig here. Enjoy a pint of XXXX Summer Bright Lager in a comfortable bar and be sure to text everyone back home, 'Wish you were beer'.

To get the party going, order one or two shots of Bundaberg Spiced Rum. Drink it straight or ask the barkeep for something to mix it with.

Raise a glass of a regional favourite like Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon or Riverina Chardonnay. Wine connoisseur or not, there's nothing like a flavoursome drop.

Time to go home from the stunning Queensland region? You might only have a handful of Australian dollars remaining in your pocket, but you'll be rich in amazing experiences.

Security checks, delayed flights and long queues. Airports can be stressful places. Give yourself extra time to find Brisbane Airport (BNE). Situated 420 kilometres to the southeast, this is the nearest terminal.
