Holidays in Alur

When chucking a sickie becomes your new norm, it's time to abandon the daily grind and say hello to Alur!

It's situated 1,750 kilometres to the south of the country's capital, New Delhi.

If you can't imagine a getaway without a little sports action, check what events are on at Hassan District Stadium. It's likely something will be happening while you visit. You'll find the venue 12 kilometres away in Hassan.

Maharaja Park and the Hasanamba Temple are close to the middle of Hassan, 11 kilometres to the east of Alur. Why not go there and take a look?

Approximately 70 kilometres to the northwest, Kemmannagundi is a destination with lots on offer. Rajendra Hill, the Inam Dattatreya Peetha and Rock Garden aren't that far away. Keep in mind, Hebbe Falls and Kalhatti Falls may be more your thing.

It's hard to think of a better way to see the local region than on a fun adventure. Sign up for some rock climbing or mountain climbing and get your blood pumping!

Looking for outdoor fun for the entire family? Bird watching and wildlife watching are two enjoyable ways to spend a few hours.

Few things in the world marry extreme thrills with a sense of calmness quite like parasailing. Take to the skies and stare in awe at the rolling views below.

Whether you're plunging into it, drifting on it or skimming across it, nothing beats being around the water. You can choose from a number of watersports here, such as swimming and snorkeling.

Our holiday schedules often depend on the weather, but that's not the case with every attraction. Rain or shine, look around the region's history museums and craft workshops any time you like.

Refresh your mind with some fun outdoor attractions. The surrounding area offers a nice assortment of open-air exhibits, open-air markets and gardens.

If you're hoping to learn something new about this region's past, tour a few ruins, fortresses, historic mansions and historic palaces. Find a map, do some research and check out the most popular ones.

If you're curious about the local systems of belief, organise an outing to one or two temples and shrines. Even if you don't have a spiritual awakening, it's likely that you'll find a little tranquillity.

Eating is one of life's biggest pleasures, and since you're here, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your excitement for both by getting out and tasting the local food and beverage offerings at various cafés, bars and restaurants in town.

A typical ingredient in the fare here is coconut. Another is mutton. They're worth getting a taste for if you're not already a fan.

During your time in Alur, eat like the locals do. That means sitting down to a meal of bisi bele bath (rice with vegetables) or saaru (tamarind and tomato soup), a couple of the area's classic recipes.

If you're here for the dessert, we don't think you'll be disappointed. Be sure to try haalubaayi (rice and coconut fudge), a tempting treat that's guaranteed to satisfy your sugar cravings.

If you're travelling to Alur on the 26th of January, get ready to let your hair down! Republic Day sees crowds of people getting out and about and celebrating.

With a little preparation, making your way to Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), the closest airport, shouldn't be too hard. It's some 180 kilometres to the east of the centre of Alur.
