When you spot a public holiday in the calendar you could <\/em>book yourself a cheeky domestic getaway. And that would be a great choice. Or you could treat yo\u2019self and head overseas like I recently did which would be a REALLY great choice. Yep, a long weekend in Hong Kong<\/a>, because why not?<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my seven top tips:<\/p>\n

1. Pick your flights<\/strong>
\nIt pays to sign up to travel newsletters – *ahem, you can subscribe to lastminute.com.au\u2019s here<\/a>* so you\u2019re in the know when flights drop. Public holidays are peak travel periods so it pays to snap up a bargain when you see it!<\/p>\n

To make the most of my long weekend, I caught a 10am flight to Hong Kong which got me there at 5:20pm. And on the return, a 8:15pm flight had me safely back in Sydney at 7:10am.<\/p>\n

2. Choose your digs<\/strong>
\nYou\u2019re spoilt for choice with hotel options in Hong Kong<\/a> but I can give a big thumbs up to Lan Kwai Fong Hotel<\/a>. This boutique hotel is centrally located near Soho, Lan Kwai Fong and Central, giving easy access to transport. The rooms have special modern oriental touches to welcome you to Hong Kong. Be sure to check in to the daily happy hour between 5-8pm for free house wine too :).<\/p>\n

3. Get out there and explore<\/strong>
\nHong Kong is thankfully easy to navigate, making your tourist life just that much simpler. The city is dense, but accessible. And, to save time at the start, make sure you get an Octopus Card from the station. With only a few days here, don\u2019t waste time working out transport!<\/p>\n

4. Try both the contemporary and traditional eats<\/strong>
\nEgg Tarts are iconic in Hong Kong, so this was a definite must try. Who doesn\u2019t love butter and pastry?! The best I tried were at Tai Cheong<\/a>. Heaven!<\/p>\n\n

All that brunching and snacking didn\u2019t mean I missed dinner though. Dragon Noodle Academy<\/a> is a must-try. The atmosphere blew me away (well, not literally, but it was amazing). Once you get over your awesome surroundings, you have to try their famous Lobster & Wonton Noodles.<\/p>\n\n

\nHot tip:<\/strong> Ask the waiter for a picture with a traditional Chinese fighting sword in front of the Dragon Wall \u2013 and make sure you pick a good weapon!<\/p>\n

\n5. Drink all of the cocktails<\/strong>
\nLan Kwai Fong has always been known as the hot spot on Hong Kong Island for its fun night life so if there\u2019s one bar you make it to, check out Ciao Chow<\/a>! If you\u2019re like me and love seeing city lights, I\u2019d suggest to Zentro Bar<\/a> \u2013 Level 4 of the IFC mall (maybe post shopping \u2013 double win!)<\/p>\n\n

\n6. Indulge with a late-night massage<\/strong>
\nAfter a day of exploring, nothing is more relaxing than a massage. The good news is, you\u2019ll be able to find many places that are open late.<\/p>\n

7. Catch a ride on the Peak Tram<\/strong>
\nUmmm, wow! This was definitely a highlight. I always love views from up high, so seeing a busy city like Hong Kong from an open space was remarkable. The Tram will take you up to Victoria Peak and give you a view of the entire island. If you take it at sunset you\u2019ll get to see the whole city light up too.<\/p>\n\n
