The pure joy of finding a \u2018best ever\u2019 meal is ever so slightly tainted when you realise your new fave isn\u2019t geographically viable as a weekend-regular haunt *sob*.<\/p>\n<p>Case in point: discovering THE best fish and chips I\u2019ve had in a very long time a mere 4000 kilometres away from my hometown of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lastminute.com.au\/Sydney-Hotels.d178312.Travel-Guide-Hotels?brandcid=lastminute-au.display.blog.jettyandthefish-post.generic\">Sydney.<\/a><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/lm\/blog\/6_2015\/fish-and-chips.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1048\" height=\"1048\" \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Fresh local seafood? Tick.<\/li>\n<li>Amazing location? Tick.<\/li>\n<li>Great service? Tick.<\/li>\n<li>Water views? Tick.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019re picturing a posh white tablecloth restaurant though, you\u2019d be wrong. Food trucks might be so hot right now in Sydney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lastminute.com.au\/Melbourne-Hotels.d178283.Travel-Guide-Hotels?brandcid=lastminute-au.display.blog.jettyandthefish-post.generic\">Melbourne<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lastminute.com.au\/Brisbane-Hotels.d179993.Travel-Guide-Hotels?brandcid=lastminute-au.display.blog.jettyandthefish-post.generic\">Brisbane<\/a> but in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lastminute.com.au\/Darwin-Hotels.d6131317.Travel-Guide-Hotels?brandcid=lastminute-au.display.blog.jettyandthefish-post.generic\">Darwin<\/a>, the hype is for a little red trailer.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll probably see the lines first: this is Darwin\u2019s worst-kept secret, and a fave of tourists and locals alike.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/lm\/blog\/6_2015\/food-truck-1.jpg\" alt=\"Jetty and the Fish\" width=\"1048\" height=\"590\" \/>\n<p>With a focus on fresh sustainable seafood and a short menu (I\u2019m all for doing a few things and doing them well) Jetty &amp; the Fish team Kate and Grant deliver the stuff of nostalgic fish and chips by the sea dreams.<\/p>\n<p>With our crispy fried selections cooked to order (as all good seafood should be!), we nab a spot to watch the famous Darwin sunset.<\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/lm\/blog\/6_2015\/smile-dad.jpg\" alt=\"Jetty and the Fish blog| livelastminute\" width=\"1048\" height=\"1862\" \/>\n<p>Served old-school style, we rip open the paper to dig into our parcel of golden battered deliciousness.<\/p>\n<p>Who needs expensive seafood restaurants when this little Darwin gem is delivering the goods? They kick off at 5.30pm on Friday and 5pm Saturday and Sunday.<\/li>\n<li>Be patient. There\u2019s only so much cooking the little trailer can manage so they pump out orders a batch at a time \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li>There are only a few benches around Nightcliff Jetty so bring a chair or picnic blanket to set yourself up.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you time your Darwin visit for a weekend. These guys are only open Friday thorugh Sunday evenings and missing a meal here would be a tragedy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><em>Where have you had the best fish and chips?
