We\u2019re all for secrets here at lastminute.com.au \u2013 Secret Hotels\u00ae<\/a> are afterall our specialty \u2013 but lastminute lovely Kirsty kept the biggest secret of all when her engagement party turned out to be her wedding (surprise!). It\u2019s fair to say after all that planning, she and her new hubby Ryan had earnt some days of relaxation in the gorgeous Whitsundays.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

After the buzz of our surprise wedding in Brisbane, Mr LML and I took a few days off to relax. Inspired by my parent\u2019s 1974 honeymoon, we packed our bags for Daydream Island in the Whitsundays.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

About 10 minutes into the flight, the theme of our holiday was decided – YOHO “You Only Honeymoon Once” which opened things up for frivolous spending, unreasonable sleep-ins and excessive champagne drinking.<\/p>\n

Inspired, we borrowed a golf cart from fellow travellers to ride to the shops in Hamilton Island before our ferry to Daydream arrived. After all, if you\u2019re going to live large you need supplies.

Stocked up on snacks and champagne, Cruise Whitsundays ferry<\/a> safely transported us to Daydream Island.<\/p>\n

You simply can\u2019t go wrong with an Island resort in the Whitsundays. Visitors to Daydream Island Resort<\/a> should be prepared for a lot of fish motifs \u2013 fishy carpet, shirts and huge fish hanging from the ceiling -which set the scene for a resort that\u2019s built for family fun. Not to worry though for couples: the location is perfect, the rooms are big and the outlook is sensational.<\/p>\n

Once we entered our Daydreamer Suite and checked out the view, bottle of champagne and choccies on arrival, we knew we were all set for the relaxing break that we sorely needed.<\/p>\n

Aside from lounging by the pool, taking in the view and re-enacting my parent\u2019s honeymoon pics from 40 years ago we didn\u2019t get up to much. But if you need some inspiration my top tips are:
\n1. Have a Champagne at “Lover\u2019s Cove”.<\/strong> It\u2019s the most secluded part of the island and you can watch a sensational sunset, sip some bubbles and make friends with the Curlews.

2. Dine at Mermaids.<\/strong> It\u2019s right on the water and our favourite place to eat on the Island.<\/p>\n

3. Catch an outdoor movie.<\/strong> Mix it with the kids and order dinner to a beach chair at the outdoor cinema. A perfect way to spend an evening on a balmy tropical Island.

4. Visit the Great Barrier Reef. <\/strong>It\u2019s one of the wonders of the world, so while you\u2019re in the area it would be crazy not to visit. If you\u2019re into scuba diving it\u2019s a must \u2013 our visibility wasn\u2019t great but under the marine platform we came face-to-face with the biggest Trevally I\u2019ve ever seen. Amazing!<\/p>\n

5. Take a helicopter ride back from the reef.<\/strong> Does anyone want to? “YOHO!”<\/p>\n

It was only a short trip but our Daydream Island stay was so much fun. There are a lot of families taking advantage of the resort\u2019s many activities, however it\u2019s unpretentious, relaxed and also has a lot to offer couples looking for an affordable Whitsundays getaway.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\"\"<\/a>\n
