A Rocky Horror Show review"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<div class=\"pinkLinks\">If the idea of a bisexual alien transvestite sends your curious mind into a spin \u2013 or your pelvis thrusting \u2013 go on: give yourself over to absolute pleasure and book tickets to the Rocky Horror Show.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"pinkLinks\"><!--more-->But first, full disclosure: this isn\u2019t the kind of musical theatre you should take your grandma to. That\u2019s obvious the minute Dr. Frank N Furter (Craig McLachlan) arrives \u2013 and drops his cape. Fishnets, heels, a corset and bright red lipstick tell me I&#8217;m in for a no-holds-barred affair. Oh, and that feminine swagger!<a href=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-review-e1419290688138.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36641\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-review-e1419290688138.jpg\" alt=\"Rocky Horror review\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>As a \u2018Rocky virgin\u2019, I take to my plush red theatre seat at QPAC with not a clue about the plot (I know, it\u2019s a crime). But the load of people wandering around the foyer before the show decked out in glitzy costumes, character ensembles and diamonte-clustered ties hints this is no average show. A 50-something-year-old in front of me stands up, wolf-whistles and screams her heart out when Dr. Frank N Furter reveals himself in all his glory, confirming it even more. Oh the antici&#8230;pation!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wlwnbcxBuzI\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" frameborder=\"0\" align=\"center\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re as much a criminal as me and haven\u2019t even seen the movie remake of the original stage show, then here\u2019s a quick rundown: All the way from Transsexual, Transylvania (yes, that\u2019s right), Dr. Frank N Furter and his entourage are in the middle of one of his maniacal experiments \u2013 creating \u201clife itself\u201d in the form of the muscley and sexy blonde-haired Rocky \u2013 when the sweet-as-pie and innocent couple Brad and Janet knock on the castle door for help. From there, they\u2019re plundered into a \u201cstrange journey\u201d, a night of seduction, surprises and erotic encounters.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-Show-lastminute.com_.au-review-e1419290679478.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36642\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-Show-lastminute.com_.au-review-e1419290679478.jpg\" alt=\"Rocky Horror Show, lastminute.com.au review\" width=\"500\" height=\"387\" \/><\/a>\n<p>As it turns out, only the Rocky Horror Show could take you \u2018there\u2019 without sending audiences out the door. Is it risque? Certainly. A bit tongue-in-cheek? You bet. Fun? Damn straight it is! The packed theatre is lured into fits of laughter, calling out clever lines and dancing in their seats. The original Rocky Horror Show was THE pioneer of audience participation, after all, and the cast is full of impromptu wit to strike back at any time. A timeless sci-fi rock\u2019n\u2019roll musical and a hilarious homage to B-rated horror cinema \u2013 or a freak show as some would call it \u2013 humour and unashamedly lewd remarks are only ever a line or two away.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-Show-e1419290646116.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-36644 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-Show-e1419290646116.jpg\" alt=\"Rocky Horror Show\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<p>But of course, such an iconic, bold and wacky show deserves a convincing cast. And who else could pull off the Dr. Frank N Furter nerve, the glamour and the revealing lingerie but the fabulous Craig McLachlan? Brendan Irving as Rocky is also impressive \u2013 even from my seat in the back row, his tight and shapely muscles steal my eyes away from the rest of the stage more than once.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-Show-review-e1419290658469.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36643\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Rocky-Horror-Show-review-e1419290658469.jpg\" alt=\"Rocky Horror Show, review\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<p>The whole cast is brilliant. It\u2019s crazy to think that they can dance AND act AND sing all at the same time. Their vocals are fab from start to finish, including the iconic jingles of \u2018Dammit, Janet\u2019, \u2018Sweet Transvestite\u2019 and \u2018Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me\u2019. Maybe aliens really do walk among us!<\/p>\n<p>From the sets to the costumes and the flawless performance, this 40th anniversary production of Richard O\u2019Brien\u2019s classic is the stuff fab nights out are made of. If you\u2019ve never been to a musical before, then this is a sure bet for your first. And absolutely nobody can resist joining in for the pelvic thrusts of The Time Warp \u2013 because this is where it all began!<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Lets-do-the-time-warp-AGAIN-e1419290700510.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36640\" src=\"https:\/\/images.trvl-media.com\/media\/content\/expaus\/images\/last-minute\/blog\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Lets-do-the-time-warp-AGAIN-e1419290700510.jpg\" alt=\"Let's do the time warp, AGAIN!\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Prepare to be, eh-hem, touched by the Rocky Horror Show. This is no Lion King, no ABBA and no Grease musical. Whether you\u2019re a part of the cult following or a Rocky virgin like me, trust me and go on: give yourself over to absolute pleasure.
