Am I the only one who used to point and laugh at people on Segways?\u00a0I guess it\u2019s their appearance; futuristic pogo sticks on wheels, zooming past.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Well, on my recent trip to Perth, all that past pedestrian ridicule I dished out came back to haunt me. Because after a few minutes on a Segway of my own, I was definitely not laughing<\/b> any more.
\n\"Rollin<\/a>I\u2019m rolling along the Perth Esplanade, the Swan River to my left, Perth CBD<\/a> to my right. I\u2019m going really fast, and when I say fast, I mean 10 k\u2019s an hour. (What? When you’re on two wheels that\u2019s totally flying.)
\nI was too cocky, and lost control of my Segway. A classic, Mitzi moment<\/a>.
\nI close my eyes and start screaming as I overtake and zoom past the group. Aaaaahhhhhh!
\n\u201cMitzi. Just slow down, pull back a bit, lean back. Thata girl\u201d a soothing voice speaks into my ears. It\u2019s Patty, our tour guide on wheels. He calms me out of my speed-shock and brings me back to a nice slow pace. My heart slows.
\nPhew, that was close.
\n\"Rollin\"<\/a>Turns out Segways are pretty incredible. They use a steer and lean technology that processes around 100 calculations a second. Crazy huh?<\/p>\n

And they really are<\/b> easy to ride, seriously, I\u2019m just a mega clutz.
\nSo, how do you do it? Just be one with the Segway; grab the handles, and step onto the Segway, like this:

From here, you lean your ankles forward and try to relax. It\u2019s a weird sensation when it starts to move- honestly, you just have to try it!<\/p>\n\"Lean<\/a>\n
