Throw out your jackets and chuck those woollen scarves to the back of the wardrobe, cos winter doesn’t have to mean cold weather – oh, no! If you want to escape the chill in the air – and the runny noses, chapped lips, and dry skin that come with it – then make a beeline for these amazing beaches.
1. Lucky Bay, Western Australia
No matter what time of year, the turquoise waters of Lucky Bay in Western Australia will have you channelling your summer vibes in no time. Keep an eye out for the local kangaroos, who love lazing on the sand as much as we do.
2. Venice Beach, California
White sand for days and wide boardwalks perfect for people watching – Venice Beach, California, has certainly got the goods. This isn’t a quaint, secluded beach, but rather an exciting meeting place where people from all walks of life come together to swim, play and check out the local talent. Enjoy 😉
3. Barceloneta Beach, Barcelona
When it comes to playa perfection, Barceloneta Beach in Barcelona is definitely up there with the best of them. When you’re done soaking up the sun, sample some of the local seafood tapas.
4. Nudey Beach, Fitzroy Island
Don’t let the name fool you. Nudey Beach on Fitzroy Island is NOT a nude beach, so make sure you pack your swimmers. And if you love the bush as much as the beach, then you’ll be happy to know that you have to walk through a national park rainforest just to get there.
5. Paliton Beach, Philippines
In the Philippines, the cows love the ocean breeze just as much as we do, so don’t be surprised if you spot a beach-loving bovine while you’re there. This picturesque spot on Siquijor Island is as secluded as it is gorgeous, and you can pick up a baby coconut for just 50 pesos. Take that, winter!
6. Halaveli Island, Maldives
If all you need to forget your winter woes is a bit of luxury, then Constance Resort’s Halavelia Island will blow your freaking mind. Water villas, lavish tropical surrounds, and your own private island setting will fill you with summer vibes ASAP.
7. North Burleigh Beach, Gold Coast
With awesome views of Surfers Paradise, but a much more chilled-out pace, North Burleigh Beach is a laid-back destination that’s perfect for a weekend getaway. The Gold Coast doesn’t really do winter, anyway, so this place is perfect all year round.
8. Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro
Not only are there white-sand beaches, clear waters, and sun-kissed locals in Arraial do Cabo, but there’s also a shipwreck dive site called the Gruta Azul to explore and the Cabo Frio Lighthouse ruins on land. Put it on your list ✔️
9. Aitutaki, Cook Islands
Blue lagoons, endless walking trails, and untouched island getaways abound on Aitutaki, but did we mention there are stunning beaches galore, too? Ditch your winter weather clothes and swap them for your swimmers and snorkelling gear, cos that’s all you’ll need here.
10. Leça de Palmeira, Portugal
If historical sites and outdoor rock pools are your thing, then Leça de Palmeira in Portugal will charm the pants off you. Take a dip, then check out Porto’s lighthouse, which was built in 1926.
