Why Split should be on your travel bucket list
Located in the north of Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, Split is the country’s second largest city and offers something for every traveller.
Prepare to be greeted with a relaxed festival atmosphere; baking sun, sparkling sea and dozens of islands within easy reach, each with their own personalities.Split is to be the final destination of our week-long stay in Croatia and after seven days of travel we are looking forward to some R&R. As soon as we enter the foyer of the beautiful Hotel Luxe we know our wishes have been granted.
Just a few minutes walk from the harbour, Diocletian’s Palace and Bacvice Beach, the boutique hotel has a luxurious feel with stylish modern decor, spacious rooms and attentive, knowledgeable staff.

Our room has an amazing view over the harbour and the balcony is perfect for a quiet drink at sunset watching the ships sail in and out of port.
There’s plenty to see in and around Split. Here are my must-dos:
1. Diocletian’s Palace, one of the best-preserved Roman structures in the world.
Wander the streets where thousands of tourists mix with the locals to shop and dine in the former emperor’s holiday palace fronting the Adriatic.

2. Take a ferry or hire a boat and head to the Island of Hvar. Sip a cocktail while taking in the sunset from the famous Hula Hula bar or taste the local wines, cheeses and olive oils at the UNESCO protected Ager Wine Fields.
3. Visit the Blue and Green Caves on the Island of Vis and while you’re there check out the amazing Lola Konoba and Bar. Located in a private terraced courtyard, serving delicious Mediterranean food – this restaurant really is a hidden gem.

4. Swim in the waterfalls at the beautiful Krka National Park, one of Croatia’s great natural wonders – only 1.5 hours drive from Split.
5. For the adventure seeker, head south to Makarska and go paragliding, scuba diving or white water rafting on the Cetina River.
6. Visit the historic town of Trogir, a world heritage site on the Adriatic coast, perfect for a romantic escape 30mins from Split.
7. Wander though Korcula Old town, legend has it Marco Polo was born here. Take in the scenery at Massimo, a cocktail bar in a turret – drinks are delivered by a pulley system.
8. Hit up the Wellness Centre at Hotel Luxe for a bit of R&R after a full on time in Split. Laze in the spa or sauna and indulge in a full body massage after all your strenuous travel.

Hot tip: Hotel Luxe partners with local tour operators so make sure you talk to reception to book your adventures. |

I agree with you that Split, my home town has so much to offer. From your beautiful photos I am convinced you have enjoyed your stay in Croatia
Visiting Makarska was an absolute joy and there are so many activities to enjoy. Here is a video of the fantastic paragliding conditions this quaint seaside town has to offer. It is amazing to see the blue waters next to the rugged mountains.
