Where to stay in Adelaide: The Playford

A hotel buffet breakfast holds so much promise. You wake up among fluffy pillows, refreshed after a night’s slumber in your temperature controlled oasis. And then you remember…

Yes! There’s no sorting your own brekkie today, the kitchen Gods have that all taken care of. And it’s all waiting a short lift ride away. #winning

Far too often though, what awaits is a series of crimes against the buffet breakfast. Watered down juices. Dry pastries. Lukewarm yoghurts. Greasy hashbrowns. And crusty scrambled eggs- thanks but no thanks. So it’s with high hopes but quiet skepticism, that Mr LML and I embark on the most important meal of the day at Adelaide’s five star gem, The Playford.

The first clue that this hotel brekkie goes down a little differently: we had to book! A note on check-in advises the hotel is close to capacity and we should choose one of two sittings and make a booking ASAP.

Going with the leisurely 9.30am option, we’re seated by the window, place coffee and tea orders and check out the offering. And it is GOOD.

Amazing fruit (could the SA strawberries be any fresher?!). Gourmet cereals – no boring cornflakes here. Local creamy yoghurts. Freshly made pastries. Eggs to order. Six different types of bread. Fried rice. Dumplings. Bircher muesli. Coconut water.

And churros! With hot chocolate sauce, OMG!

If that all doesn’t get your day off to the right start, you’re doing it wrong. Obviously, it’s worth booking a stay at The Playford for breakfast alone but luckily this property has a lot of other things going for it too.

Part of the luxe MGallery Collection, the boutique hotel oozes old world glamour. I’m a sucker for chandeliers and combined with the classic staircases, polished service and valet parking, guests score the celebrity treatment.

Our Studio Spa Suite doesn’t disappoint either featuring a well-stocked mini-bar and kitchenette, spacious lounge area with bustling street views and balcony, Foxtel, king bed and a huge bathroom complete with spa bath, rainfall shower and Appelles toiletries.

If you’re into fitness, the 24/7 gym has you covered with a range of machines and weights. If you prefer your exercise in the water, the heated indoor swimming pool is practical and pretty.

All great hotels need a great location and The Playford ticks that box too. The famous Adelaide Central Markets – foodie heaven! – cute bars and popular restaurants are an easy stroll away.

Just make sure you wake up hungry for breakfast.
