Review: L Hotel Seminyak

Arriving to check-in at the L Hotel, you could be forgiven for forgetting you’re in Bali.

The swanky foyer wouldn’t be out of place in a Sydney or Melbourne boutique hotel.

Oh hey Audrey..

Oh hey Audrey..

The oh-so-cool accommodation (so cool its name is a single letter) has posh-stay written all over it. Thankfully without any attitude. Greeted like an old-friend as the check-in staff fall over themselves to welcome us, the trendy exterior can’t hide that warm Balinese hospitality.

Hello welcome drink!

Located in the heart of Seminyak, the 30 suite L Hotel is only a few minutes away from the area’s most popular restaurants and bars: Potato Head, Sarong, Ku De Ta and Sarong among others.

Priding itself on personalisation, each guest is assigned a ‘24/7 Butler’ to attend to their every need, a service which includes a handy mobile phone during your stay to arrange pick-ups from nearby (very handy).

Our lifestyle suite may be on the small side (the toilet’s in an actual cupboard!) but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in style. The specially handcrafted Balinese ceiling ornament is beautiful and adds a local touch to what is otherwise a non-traditional Bali stay. The dashes of bright colour, delicate lighting and striped ivory linen complete the look.

Other things to love include the king-bed (extremely comfy), a pillow menu and (believe-it-or-not) a soap menu, speciality Kiehl’s toiletries, rain shower, and not only complimentary wi-fi but a complimentary mini-bar too. And if you’re a solo traveller, you’re given a goldfish for your stay to keep you company. Too cute.

The promised personalised treatment includes a few little surprises. Sweet treats in our suite at night. Bedtime stories to read. Creative towel art. And my favourite: an upgrade on our last night. The stand-alone bathtub in the luxury suite is pretty damn fabulous.

Location, service and luxe touches aside, my favourite thing has to be the ‘Love Corner’ we score at breakfast.

L.O.V.E love!

Not only does the dining area feature a beautiful pool area (surely more for appearances than swimming, would be a bit awks swimming in there while your fellow guests enjoyed their toast!) but there is a table sitting over the water, perfect for a romantic brekkie for two.

The a la carte breakfast menu features as many Indonesian and Western options for you to order as you like. My egg white omelette and fruit hits the spot while Mr LML enjoys his Salon Ribs.

The facilities don’t end there either. There’s another outdoor pool (uniquely located off site, around the corner), a spa, gym, Teppanyaki restaurant and a rooftop bar.

Villas – spacious, private and often with your own pool – might be a top pick for most Aussies visiting Bali. But if you don’t mind quirky and are looking for an affordable base in Seminyak close to the action with a hotel-vibe, the L goes above and beyond to be a crowd pleaser.

What’s the most personalised treatment you’ve ever had on a hotel stay?
