Q & A with The Iconic Fashion Buyer Louise
lastminute lovely Mitzi caught up with The Iconic‘s fashion buyer Louise to talk all things glitz, glam and travel.
What does a regular day in the life of a Fashion Buyer for The Iconic look like?
HECTIC!! I’ll start by analysing sales, running around Sydney and going to showings of our brand’s latest collections. Then it’s back to the office to write orders, attend range meetings with other buyers/departments and work with marketing to come up with ideas for the next new campaigns.
There’s never a quiet moment at THE ICONIC – we are constantly on the go. It’s hectic but fun!
Where has your job taken you?
Melbourne, London, LA, Vegas, China… I love going to New York – it’s my favourite place to travel with work!
What celeb would you love to sit next to on a plane?
Stephen Merchant – because he is hilarious and would make the flight pass quicker. Plus he is super tall so would probably get the seats with extra leg room!
If you’ve been, what’s your fave: New York, Milan or Paris Fashion Week?
London Fashion Week is my favourite (I haven’t been to the others) – but would absolutely love to go one day!
Finish this sentence: The most fashionable city in the world is ______
London! I am biased as I am British, but London is the most fashionable city. Anything goes; it’s a mixed bag of cultures, has a vibrant atmosphere and it seems like all styles are accepted. Walking around Camden, Carnaby Street and Brick Lane you see everything from bold and brash styles to more conventionally sophisticated dressing. Great places to go style spotting!
As a regular jetsetter, have you seen any tragic fashion faux pas?
Plenty – but velour pink tracksuits in an airport lounge will always top the list!
Speaking of, what’s your opinion on couples that match their outfits while travelling?
Do people do that? Really bad, but entertaining for others… hopefully no matching velour tracksuits!
While on the road, what’s a never-fail outfit that can take us from day to night?
A little black shift dress, you can dress it down with vans or cons and take a pair of heels in your handbag for your night out. Match it with a blazer and use accessories to dress it up.
What are the top five wardrobe must-haves for summer getaways this season?
A kimono, white cotton shirt, maxi dress, playsuit and sandals/wedges.
What item of clothing do you never leave home without?
A black leather jacket…
