One of Australia’s biggest entertainment success stories is also one of our biggest travellers, spending a huge three quarters of the year away from home! We caught up with the Yellow Wiggle, Emma to chat about life on the road.
1. What’s the best thing about being the Yellow Wiggle?
The best thing about being the Yellow Wiggle is meeting lots of children from all around the world. On a more personal note, it’s been lovely seeing so many boys and girls dress up with yellow bows!
2. How much of the year do you typically spend travelling?
We spend about nine months every year touring all around the world. We don’t get much time at home but we always love coming back to Australia. The Wiggles do shows at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast each year, and we recently did one again. It was incredible – there were cars parked for kilometres down the road all waiting to come and see the show. We always love spending time there – perfect for kids of all ages (me included!)
3. What destinations has your job taken you to around the world? Do you get a chance to sightsee or is it all work?
In the last three years I have been able to go to the UK, USA, Canada, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
On tour we don’t get much time to sightsee but always manage to squeeze in a quick trip somewhere. And if we have a few days off after the tour we try and get away to a city we have never been. Last year, because it was close to where we were, I went over to Barcelona and cycled round the whole town, ate lots of yummy paella and swam at the beach.
And before I was a Wiggle, I was also very fortunate to dance in China, France and in some Bollywood premieres in India.
4. Apart from your yellow skivvy, what are some luggage essentials for when you’re on the road?
I always take a box of bows and hair accessories when I travel. When you tour constantly, a hair accessory can really change your whole outfit from day-to-day, yet be small enough to not take up too much suitcase space.
5. What is the first thing you do when you walk into a hotel room?
The first thing I look for when I get in a hotel room is a bath! It’s the best feeling, if there is bath I know I can just relax.
6. Aisle or the window seat?
I have changed my opinion over the years. I’ve always like the window to look out but now for all the longer trips the aisle is the best knowing you can easily go to the bathroom.
7. Where is your dream holiday destination?
There are so many nice places in Australia I haven’t even been to yet! Somewhere I can swim in a river and go horse riding, and I know the Aussie countryside would be the best for that.
8. Who would be a better travel buddy: Wags the Dog, or Dorothy the Dinosaur?
I think Dorothy the dinosaur would be a better travel buddy because Dorothy has been around for millions of years and she would probably know the better places.
9. What’s your favourite big red car, road trip tune?
Well our new Christmas album ‘Go Santa Go!’ has just been released so I think that will be my new favourite road trip music in the big red car. Particularly the song ‘ Emma’s Christmas Bow’ will be on repeat I’m sure.
