NYC must-do: Sunset Sailing the Hudson River
My love for the Big Apple is no secret. I’ve already shared my hotel picks and my gourmet hit-list but what I haven’t given you, is the highlight of my NYC holiday…

Like any good trip, half the fun is in the planning and it was during a night of online research that I stumbled across a NYC local mention a sailing trip on the Hudson River. When Nikki Parkinson from Styling You happened to venture on board a few weeks before my visit, it was a done deal. Her blog doesn’t have style in the title for no reason, that woman knows how to travel 😉
Good to know: The team sail between April and November so don’t rock up in winter expecting to get your sail on. |
Arriving at the Chelsea Pier, we’re greeted by our friendly skipper and carefully ushered on board the Adirondack, an 80-foot schooner, totally classic and oh-so-stylish.

Even though we’re in a group (there are 10 or so of us), it’s spacious and while there’s the occasional group chatter, for the most part it feels almost like your own private tour and I admit, I had a little ‘pinch-me moment’.
Complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks are included in the USD $64 ticket but it’s BYO on the food front if you’re feeling peckish.

Top tip: Stop by the Chelsea Markets on your way and pick up dinner supplies. If you read this post, you’ll know the lobster roll was our pick. |

The thing that strikes me most as we glide over the sparkling water is the peace and quiet. After five days among the hustle-and-bustle of everything NYC has to offer (and loving every lastminute of it), I hadn’t realised just how loud it all was and how refreshing the little dose of quiet, while gazing back at the gorgeous city could be.
Top tip: If you can, book your trip a few days into your trip so you can really enjoy the serenity! |
I can’t think of a better way to see the New York skyline and the Statue of Liberty, especially at sunset. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves…

Oh wow, Nicole! Brought back so many memories. Still a highlight of our trip – agree re the serenity, it didn’t feel like you were sharing the space and the sounds of the boat on the water just made it! Want a lobster roll now!!
Thanks again for the tip Nikki! Truly inspired 🙂 If only I could get my hands on a lobster roll like that in Sydney!
Wow! Great tips to watch night fall on the city as the sun sets behind the Statue of Liberty from the unbeatable vantage point of the harbor- http://freshnyc.com/blog/sailing-lessons-nyc-best-manhattan-sailing-schools-and-clubs
