Feeling the pinch? You’ve just had your snugly winter getaway, and a summer holiday is on the horizon, but you don’t want to completely miss out on making the most of the long weekend. Here’s my solution: save some dosh and staycation this long weekend.
For most of us we think we know our city like the back of our hand, been there done that. But do you really? Have you ever actually taken the time to explore your hometown? This long weekend (sorry Melbourne peeps, but you do score a Melbourne Cup public holiday in November) is your excuse to indulge, explore and experience your city without the added expense of flights – score!
Sydney
Set sail on Sydney Harbour and discover its shimmering secrets.
Indulge in a Hunter valley winery tour and stay at a luxe hotel in the region.
Head to the Blue Mountains and get outdoors, take an eco day trip or go horse riding.
Brisbane
Head to the Gold Coast hinterland and discover the delights of the rainforest with a day tour.
Cross the border and treat yourself to an eco friendly spa treatment and a night under the stars in Byron Bay.
Enjoy a champagne brekkie while watching the sunrise from your hot air balloon.
Adelaide
Get to know the local wildlife and explore the interesting natural rock formations on Kangaroo Island for the day.
Eat drink and be merry in the Barossa, do a wine tour during the day and dig-in at night at one of the finest restaurants in Oz.
Take the plunge or dare a friend to swim with sharks in Port Lincoln.
Perth
Catch the ferry to Rottnest Island and splash out on fresh lobster with a glass of sparkling for lunch and enjoy the view (and the friendly Quokkas).
