If you didn’t take a photo, did it even happen? No, the answer is always no. It didn’t. And for that reason, I felt it was my duty to teach, or should I say coax, my partner to take the ultimate holiday snaps (of me) during our recent trip to Europe.
Living in the time of influencers and travel bloggers who make their holiday snaps look like something off a magazine cover, I felt like I had to step up my Insta game. If you too want your partner take amazing snaps of you living your best life on holiday, then keep reading…
1. Do your research
How are you going to get your SO to take the perfect shot of you if you don’t even know what that looks like? That’s why your travel research should include some time on Instagram looking at influencer shots you LOVE. Get tagging, too. The higher you set the bar with your boo, the quicker they’ll learn what the expectations are for your trip.
2. Find the perfect spot
Location, location, location! While you’re out enjoying the sights and sounds (and tastes) of your getaway, keep on the lookout for cute spots that would make perfect backdrops for your holiday shots. Archways, anywhere with water, and lookouts work a treat.
3. Take an example shot
Let’s be honest, you probably know what sort of image you’re hoping for when you ask your partner to take a shot of you in front of a beautiful coastal view from a castle on top of a mountain. But they, annoyingly, might just be enjoying the view and not noticing how gorgeous you are in this light. So, pull your babe aside and take an example shot of them so they can: 1. Appreciate your photography skills. 2. Take the exact same shot of you. And don’t forget to be specific about what you mean, too. Pointers like, “Keep my feet in the frame or shoot from the waist up” will really help them capture what you’re hoping to see.
4. Be specific
I don’t know about you, but when I ask my partner to take a picture of me, I actually mean take about 42 pictures of me. Work different angles, find my good side, jump on a chair – do whatever it takes to do to get THE SHOT. But in reality, if I ask for a photo, I get a photo. One. So be specific about what you want. Babes, I want 28 pics of me in this spot. K, thanks 😘
5. Change up your poses
But there’s no use asking your boo to take a bunch of pics if they’re all going to look EXACTLY THE SAME. Change up your poses! Put your hand on your hip, look up, look down, turn away from the camera, pop your hip, work your angles, flaunt your curves, be confident! Then you can scroll through the 518 pics of yourself in front of a tree in Mykonos and decide which two are worth sharing on social 😉
6. Dress to impress
Now, it’s not all on your partner to get the perfect shot. We’ve got some responsibility, too. You don’t have to go crazy with your outfits (unless that’s your thing), but when you know you’re heading to a gorgeous spot, wear something that is either colourful and going to pop in the shot or something that showcases your personality. That way, half the work is already done for you. You look goooood!
7. Be playful
Not only will this come through in the shot, but you want your bae to enjoy taking your photo too. Otherwise they’re not going to take their time to get the perfect shot and they’re going to be sick of it by day two of your 24-day holiday. Loosen up and enjoy! You don’t want to go through all your pics and see the hint of frustration in your eyes. Awks.
