Hotel review: Sebel King George Square
Our NT blogger Jen heads back to her hometown and treats her Mum to a plush stay at one of Brisbane’s hottest five star hotels.
Living in Darwin, it’s easy to forget that not everyone enjoys warm days throughout June, July and August. My recent trip to Brisbane (yes I know, not exactly the coldest part of Oz in winter) gave me a friendly reminder. Who knew the temperature went under 16 degrees?!
The reason for escaping my warm winter sanctuary in NT? Visiting my family down in Brisvegas and spending a night at the luxe Sebel King George Square hotel. It happened to be my Mum’s birthday and she was more than thrilled to be spending a night in luxury to recharge the batteries, and what an amazing place to do so.

The Sebel is located a short stroll away from Queen Street Mall in the heart of the city. With over 200 deluxe rooms and a business floor (I actually had my year 12 formal here a few years ago) whether you are visiting for business or play, you will find what you are looking for.
Rooftop heated pool, fully equipped gym, stylish bar, this place has it all! Not to mention my new favourite place, Bistro Allure, an awesome cosmopolitan restaurant with an almost retro feel to it.
Bistro Allure has an open plan kitchen so you can watch the chefs do what they do best. Serving up a mixture of Australian and Asian flavours for dinner, the menu choices are delicious and the presentation of each meal is perfect.
The staff are exceptionally friendly and we were so delighted with the way we were treated, we offered our waitress our bottle of wine as a gift! Not only does the Bistro Allure do dinner, they also do buffet (my favourite word) breakfasts!
After our lovely meal, we decided to check out the Treasury Casino and tried our luck on the pokies while listening to the live local band. The Treasury Casino exudes style on the outside and inside, creating a lovely atmosphere for a great night.
We headed back to our deluxe room, ready to crash on our massive beds! The room was very stylish and modern with a huge bathroom with a dual vanity, perfect for couples or those who love to hog the mirror. Our room had a huge window overlooking part of the city and it was great to watch life go by on a dreary, cold morning!
I highly recommend the Sebel King George Square to anyone and everyone: the location, service, rooms and facilities make it a top choice for all travellers to the Queensland capital.
