Hide and Seek at Lindenderry

Chantal escapes Melbourne for a rejuvenating break at Lindenderry on the Mornington Peninsula.

Getting lost isn’t everyone’s idea of a great getaway, but at Lindenderry at Red Hill, losing yourself is exactly the point.

Boasting more than 40 guestrooms, a restaurant, function centre, board and games rooms, luxurious lounges, tennis courts, a swimming pool and even its own library, there is more than enough to keep guests covered for entertainment, sport and luxury.

Beautifully furnished with a European flair, Lindenderry features amazing antiques, paintings and sculptures collected from all corners of the world by its owners on their many travels.

So with our complimentary map in hand and a newfound sense of adventure, my husband and I set off to discover all that Lindenderry has to offer.

Wining and dining

The main course

The main course

Lindenderry’s resident chef was as accommodating as he was creative. As we are both vegan, we were delighted to know that our tastes were well and truly catered for.

Instead of the complimentary devonshire tea, we were spoilt with our own exclusive meal of flaked almonds and poached pears. The sweet, liqueury flavours still linger over my tastebuds.

Dinner was three delectable courses: a crisp green salad with roasted pumpkin and blanched asparagus and mustard vinaigrette; tomato stuffed with cracked wheat, pistachios and pomegranate seeds with a side of chargrilled eggplant and chat potatoes; and dessert peaches with vegan Turkish delight drizzled with maple syrup.

The Secret Gardens

Feeling as though we’d wandered into a famous English literary classic, we meandered down to the lake and struck up a friendship with the resident goose who posed with the poise of a supermodel for a series of happy snaps.

Hedges of lavender, sweeping wisteria and towering gums sprawled across the many hidden pockets of garden at every corner of the property.

Game on

Lindenderry also features a very entertaining games room where my husband challenged me to a few rounds of table tennis. Much to my delight, I spent most of the time picking the ball, my racquet or myself off the floor.

It was no surprise when I politely declined a game of billiards and a round of tennis.

Pampered bliss at the day spa

While the plush beds and luxurious couches eased some of those knots in my shoulders, I was rapt that Lindenderry also features its own day spa. Guests can opt to have a poolside massage and follow it up by unwinding in the indoor heated pool. Just remember to pack your bathers.

Catch up on some reading

Did I mention that Lindenderry also has its own library? Complete with a range of fiction and non-fiction and many literary classics, including daily papers and magazines, we also had the option of snuggling up by the fireplace on the cosy couches and indulging our mind and body.

Room Service

Eventually exhausted from roaming the grounds, admiring the acres of grape vines and the many rooms around the main building, we found ourselves back in our own private suite, reminiscent of a French villa on the outskirts of Provence.

We quickly made ourselves at home by donning our complimentary robes and slippers, and then dipped into the spa. And somehow, we managed to fit all of this luxury into just one night.

So while you might lose yourself, at Lindenderry at Red Hill you will discover a whole new you—relaxed, indulged and completely at ease—and all in one night.
