The iconic postcard cover girl of the Aegean Sea, Santorini is a Greek Islands’ destination that cannot be overlooked. With calderas littered with signature blue and white churches, to rugged volcanic terrain and rich archaeological history, this honeymoon hotspot is much more than just a place to shake off the hangover from your wedding reception.
In Santorini…
To See: The Sunset at Oia
One word… Spectacular. Watch the sky turn gold as the sun lowers into the Aegean Sea and takes your breath away. Pretty darn romantic too.
To Do: Brama Yachts Catamaran Cruise
You know that sporadic decision that defines a trip? This is that decision. Booking a Brama Yachts catamaran cruise, we are picked up at the hotel by our incredible host Maria, and taken out to our steed of the ocean for the day. Circumnavigating the island, the catamaran cruise allows you to experience views of Santorini that can only be fully appreciated from the water, particularly those not accessible directly by roads on the island, such as the Red and White Beaches.
The crew is amazing from start to finish, with the Captain Labis and the catamaran’s hosts accommodating all our needs, be it food (which is all made on the boat and is amazing. P.s: the best Tzatziki on the planet!), drink, music selection or even a history lesson. He also offers ideas how we can make the most of the Brama Yachts experience, including regular opportunities to jump off the boat and go for a swim or take some extra happy snaps. The best part is reaching the volcano. Seeing such a beastly beauty up close and surrounded by sea is not just a photo op, it’s an opportunity to stop for a minute, stare and just think, ‘wow’.
To Eat: Sunset Tavern
Why not make the most of the Oia sunset by complimenting it with a cold beer, glass of wine and some delicious seafood? The Sunset Tavern has tables facing the sun sinking into the ocean with a great selection of mains. Great view and great taste 😉
To Stay: Tholos Resort
Tholos Resort is where your Santorini dreams come true. With its perfect location at Imerovigli, it looks directly over the volcano, Aegean Sea and has an uninterrupted view of the sunset. While floating in the infinity pool, you can see across the caldera and look down on amazing Greek architecture.
Tholos Resort’s location is as magnificent as its facilities and service. The hotel is run by a team that offers true Greek hospitality, privacy and comfort, from the enthusiastic welcome at the front desk to the smiles accompanying the breakfast delivered directly to the door in the mornings. And I haven’t even mentioned the rooms, decorated with traditional Greek flair and blended with modern facilities, you’ll feel like a Greek God and/or Goddess as you relax in your quarters overlooking that brilliant view.
To Play: Hire an ATV and explore the island
There’s a lot more to Santorini than blue-roofed churches and sunsets, and the best way to catch it all, while soaking in the Mediterranean sun is by hiring an ATV to cruise around the island.
Have a cocktail on one of the black beaches, see the ruins at Akrotiri, run into some old castles and drive through vineyards along the way. All the while enchanted by the majestic Aegean sea and outlying islands.
Convinced? Me too. I might just see you there. 😉
