Sorting through the different accommodation options in Surfers Paradise is no easy task.
If you’re not in the market to splurge on the Hilton or Soul, and don’t want to rough it in the Pink Poodle (although this is sadly just a sign now) here’s a recommendation … The 4.5 star Wyndham Surfers Paradise.
I just returned from a fantastic weekend staying at the Wyndham Surfers Paradise. Mr LML and I had a great time and managed to skip the parties and meter maids, and have a luxurious time instead. Our formula:
1. Location: If you want access to all the great things in Surfers Paradise but don’t want to party till dawn on Orchard Avenue, staying a few blocks away from the epicentre on Cavill Ave (to cart your shopping bags back easily) but far enough so you can’t hear the revelling is a good move. The Wyndham fit this formula nicely being situated a couple of easily walked blocks away from the centre.
2. Renovation rescue: The new buildings on the Gold Coast are very chic, but if you want to save some cash on your accommodation to splurge on dining, a newly renovated building like the Wyndham works a treat. The rooms are clean, modern (with kitchens you could entertain in) and balcony’s with views of the beach.
3. Throw in some splurge: While we did have a very functional kitchen, to add a touch of delicious to our weekend we went for a drink at the Hilton Bar (Breakfast Mojito anyone) followed by a five course degustation at Salt Grill – Luke Mangan’s restaurant in the Hilton Surfers Paradise. Now that is the sort of glitz I prefer on the Gold Coast.
4. Book in for brekky: While there are some great cafes we opted to book in for the hotel breakfast. The Wyndham breakfast is a simple hot and cold buffet with everything you need to fuel up for a day focussed on the beach.
5. Beach time: When on the Gold Coast… go to the beach. We were lucky enough to have sensational weather and a two-minute walk saw us lying horizontal on the beach and feeling a million miles away from the office in Brisbane. The water was a little chilly but luckily the Wyndham’s pool is heated to a sensational 24 degrees so we left most of the swimming action to the hotel. Yep, we have had it tough the last two days.
6. And another dose of luxury: The perfect way to end a weekend at the beach is to finish off with a massage. We splurged again with a one-hour treatment at Spa Q at QT resort just 5-minutes from the hotel. Even the foyer of this hotel is an experience. I highly recommend a trip to buy a lemonade from their lemonade and ice tea stand at the very least but a one hour massage was an extra special treat that we feel we deserved.
All-in-all our weekend at the Wyndham was a big win. We had a sensational, modern and perfectly located apartment, splurged on experiences and have come home relaxed and even have a little bit of a tan. If you’re looking for a short break or even a long stay, this is a superb hotel to make your base for discovering everything that’s new on the Gold Coast.
