Escape to the ZIRCUS
I’ve learnt my lesson when it comes to Jupiters’ stage shows; expect the unexpected.
I’ve had my chardonnay spilt, been practically blinded by human sequins, and now, as I once again sink into the pillowy -soft, red theatre chair, I’m stunned.
I’m watching a petit blonde dressed in a checked onesie slide her head backwards down her back and through her legs until her chest sits on the floor. Her ankles stand by her ears and she nuzzles her calf muscle like some cat-zombie with elastic bones.

As she walks off stage, a wide eyed Mr LML leans over and whispers in my ear. “Don’t make me watch that again”.
Zircus is a mixed bag of circus acts who are so impressive, they’re like those train-wreck situations where you don’t want to watch, but can’t look away.

With Ringmaster Z, a friendly version of Jack Nicholson as the Joker, leading the way, we laugh, gasp, clap and gape through each act. And to break things up, fist-pumping dance acts and the vocals of Jade Louise release the tension in between.
My favourite act? The man with the hoops, US born Mat Plendl, is captivating. He manages to make hula-hooping look easy, and I can tell you now, that it is NOT.
As he effortlessly spins four glittering hoops so fast it looks as if he is running inside a floating orb, it’s enough to make me want to throw a tantrum.
Life is not fair.

And he’s not the only international guest inside the Zircus; there’s the Risley Brothers and their foot-juggling, Icarian Games Act. No, not juggling with balls on their feet, they actually juggle each other! Don’t try it at home.
There’s also the three X-treme Brothers and their muscles, which deserve a special mention, a man on the flying trapeze, Nick Rothlisberger and Jordan McKnight, a contortionist from Las Vegas.
Local acts Aerial Angels and Majestic (these guys from Australia’s Got Talent) are more flying, flexible people that soar above our heads in all types of shapes and speeds.
Before Mr LML is completely freaked out by flexible females, we hear the roar of a motorcycle which perks him right up. And guys, here lies the mass appeal of Zircus; there’s something for everyone!
The Globe of Death, the motorbike act where two bikes zoom inside a metal globe at 80 k’s an hour literally brings the audience from stunned silence, to yahooing applause in about five minutes. Awesome.
We leave Jupiters’ with massive smiles on our faces and only four words to say.
“That. Was. SO. Good.”
Hurry! Zircus is only on for a limited season, book your tickets here:
I have been to see Zircus twice and loved it. Totally get Mr LML’s comment regarding the contortionist and fully agree with you that the man with the hoops was the best act. Awesome dancers too.
Thanks for your comment Melissa- glad you enjoyed it too! 🙂
