Airline review: Garuda Indonesia

I love flying. The thrill of heading off on a new adventure never fails to have me in high spirits and there’s not much that can break my holiday high.

Someone famous once said that it’s the journey, not the destination that matters, and while I don’t completely agree, I do believe the journey can either add to the experience or it can seriously detract from it. This particular flight was the former – it put one delicious cherry on top of a great pie…ah, trip.

The airline? Garuda Indonesia. Read on to see why.

Garuda Indonesia Review
  1. The food and drinks

Priority number one when I fly are the refreshments. There are a few things that are required for this to be a success:

  1. Meals and drinks are free (very important)
  2. Meals and drinks are plentiful
  3. Meals and drinks are available whenever I want them (got to get my money’s worth!)

I’m pleased to announce that Garuda ticks all of the above. From the warm towelettes, pre-lunch snacks and hot lunch options to the mango weis bar that we’re offered after lunch and the lollies for landing, we don’t go hungry – in fact, I’d say we’re probably a bit over-full (but who’s complaining ;)).

  1. The large selection of entertainment

Although it’s only a 6-hour trip to Denpasar, Bali, good entertainment makes all the difference. I actually really enjoy watching movies on planes because it’s the only time where I can sit for hours and watch without distraction – the perfect opportunity to watch Boyhood (3-hrs). I also watch Perks of Being a Wallflower and a quick disclaimer – if you tend to get emotional when you watch movies, don’t watch this one on a plane. I can guarantee you’ll be embarrassed when the lights come back on for landing.

  1. The service

We’re amazed at how efficient and friendly the service is. From check-in to taking our seats on the planes, there’s no time messing around with service announcements or lining up. We’re promptly shown to our seats and the plane leaves the tarmac before we can pull out our books. The stewards and stewardesses are also lovely and incredibly attentive, and always checking in to make sure we’re happy and not hungry or thirsty.

Garuda Indonesia service

So there you have it – three reasons that I’ll fly with Garuda Indonesia time and time again.
