A stylish weekend in Bali

A stylish weekend in Bali

Ever dreamt of heading to Bali for a weekend away? If you’re lucky enough to live in Darwin, it’s easy peasy, as our resident blogger Jen writes (try not to be too jealous!)

Bali is one of the most desirable destinations for Territorians to visit, with 18 flights or roughly over 3000 seats a week flying from Darwin to the popular location. And considering that it’s only a two hour and 40 minute cheap as chips flight, it’s no wonder that weekends away in Bali are becoming the norm up here! So much so that when my husband and I told the immigration officer at Darwin Airport that it would be our first time in Bali, we were met with surprise!

While many were celebrating the end of the year in tourist hotspot Kuta, we headed in the opposite direction, for a little ‘R’n’R’, at the incredible Anantara Spa and Resort in Seminyak.

Anantara Seminyak Resort & Spa

When it comes to Anantara, luxury is an understatement. From the immaculate rooms overlooking the ocean to the luxurious swimming pool, surrounded by an assortment of comfy furniture to laze the day away in, it’s easy to see and feel the relaxing and carefree atmosphere created here.

The hospitality of the staff is incredible and we were always greeted by friendly faces no matter where we went. Each of the 60 elegant suites filled with a mix of Bali inspired furniture and a modern design echo the ultimate luxury and culture of the resort. I could even write for hours on how amazing our bathroom was let alone the whole resort!

Here is how we spent our relaxing weekend in Seminyak:

Wild Orchid ocean terrace

Friday: We arrived at Anantara in the afternoon and were greeted with the most delicious welcome drink from the staff before heading off to our amazing room that really took our breath away. We made it just in time to watch the famed Seminyak sunset from our daybed on our balcony.

Afterwards we had dinner at the onsite restaurant, Wild Orchid, enjoying a set three course menu of Thai food and oh-my was it amazing. To end the night we took a stroll on Seminyak beach before crashing into our over-sized bed!

Saturday: Something I have always wanted to do and can now personally recommend to everyone that visits Bali – ride an elephant! We spent the better half of the day at the Elephant Safari Park in Taro for an experience we will never forget! The Elephant Safari Park is home to the largest herd of rescued Sumatran elephants in the world and here you have the opportunity to get up close and personal with these massive yet gentle creatures (hard to believe they are the smallest type of elephant!!).
After our safari ride through-out the park we were able to hand feed and touch the elephants before watching the elephant show where they showcase the amazing talents of these giants. The elephants do all sorts of tricks from playing the harmonica to answering math questions! Bali Adventure Tours have a range of great adventure packages including mountain bike riding and white water rafting. Our package included transfers to and from the hotel, as well as a buffet lunch!

In the late afternoon, we headed to the top floor of the hotel where the spa is located and indulged in a one hour couples massage. We were pampered from head to toe with essential oils and relaxing music. We enjoyed a quick swim in the stylish pool before heading on a culinary adventure to try some local cuisine. We dined at a restaurant called Passargad which was just down the road and needless to say the Indonesian cuisine was as incredible as the hospitality!

Anantara Spa & Resort Pool

Sunday: On our last day at Anantara, we feasted on breakfast at the Wild Orchid, picking from the delicious menu and gorging at the buffet. I couldn’t resist – there were too many choices! We enjoyed our last relaxing walk on the beach feeling as relaxed as ever and not wanting to leave! Luckily they have a late checkout so I could enjoy our room that little bit longer and use the jacuzzi out on the balcony.

If you’re dying to get a little rest and relaxation, I cannot recommend Anantara highly enough. My experience here is one I will never forget and is something that will turn into a regular event. There is nothing like ending the year or beginning a new year with a little luxury to refresh the mind body and soul!

Until next time, happy travels!
