A Father’s guide to not stuffing up Mothers Day
Here are some tips to help Dads everywhere set a spectacularly high standard for Mothers Day, and a magnificent precedent for another very important celebration day later during the year: Fathers Day!
Imagine: Beautiful linen, cosy covers, curtains drawn and the blissful sound of silence. Booking a night away for you and your partner for Mothers Day is the gift that keeps on giving because Dads get to sleep in too.
Hot Tip: Mothers Day ‘staycations’ – where you and your partner are only a few minutes drive away if desperately needed – are the perfect solution for a Mothers Day morning, allowing you both to be tourists in your own city. Check out these deals for inspo. |
Mothers Day breakfast-in-bed is usually burnt toast and an over-boiled egg, with the kitchen sink full of dirty dishes evidencing your efforts. Clever Dad’s know the best breakfast in bed is delivered by room service; the lush approach to living the high life. Mums get to wrap themselves in a fluffy robe and enjoy breakfast in bed the way (we suppose) the Kardashians do.

Another suitable indulgent breakfast alternative is to swoosh down to the buffet so you can both start the day very well fed. You might even decide to have the kids dropped off at a civilized time to join you for a fabulous family breakfast. Mum will be happy. The kids will be delighted. And you can bask in your hero status as everyone choruses, “thanks Dad!”
Hot Tip: lasminute lovely Mitzi swears that the QT Gold Coast’s buffet breakfast is the best ever. Book a stay here. For those in Sydney, the Hilton’s Glass Restaurant is also particularly famous. Book a stay here. |
For those of you waking up at home on Mothers Day, and taking a more traditional approach to helping the children make breakfast for Mum, why not surprise her with your super-dooper-sweetness by serving the eggs in these oh-so-cute egg cups which proclaim how much you and the kids love and need her. Get yours here.

Any Master Chef-like scrutiny she may have been ready to wield about the cooking will be rapidly replaced with a smile of delight. Add some scrummy chocolates to the breakfast platter and Mum will be so buttered up she’s bound to be generous and share them: good news for Dads and kids on the day. This chocolate hamper is divine.

Everyone knows Mums deserve a flower on Mothers Day, but for a creative twist that doesn’t require any stress during the day-before related to finding and hiding the blooms in a bucket, clever Dads plan ahead and order a flower-inspired gift. A floral candle like this ticks all the boxes: a present which is so pretty on the day, so easy for you to order ahead of time, and thereafter a lovely scented house. Win win win.

When Mum finally emerges, our final tip is to greet her with a glass of shimmering bubbles in a frosty cold, long-stemmed glass to rival the most delicate tulip, (see here) and the entire family will be set for the very best of Mothers Days. You can find a whole range of bubbles here.

A big THANK YOU and Happy Mothers Day to all the Mums!
