We all know coming home is the worst part about holidays. It’s time to start packing and make your way home from your amazing holiday but do you know what you’ll be going through? Here are the emotional stages of coming home from holidays (that I go through), good luck!
Stage 1: Optimism
The first stage of what is most definitely an emotional rollercoaster. This one isn’t too bad, you’re still on holiday so thats a good thing! You’ll be looking back on what was an epic trip and start planning what you’re going to do next time you’re back, you’ll have all these ideas that you want to do when you got back…the bathroom could do with a reno right? What about new gardens? and you’ll be quite content and happy with what was yet another life changing holiday.
Stage 2: Denial
Ahhh…the denial stage. This is where you’ll refuse to think about going back to work and the million emails that awaits you, the angry customers and the boring, non exotic lunches. You’ll refuse to think about the long plane ride home and inevitably the plane food and snoring passengers. Definitely a step down from the first stage.
Stage 3: Anxiety
You vaguely remember the bills you forgot to pay before you left for your ahhhmazing holiday and worry if the power will still be connected or if you’ll have running water. You’ll remember that you forgot to throw out the milk and ham from your fridge and panic about having to clean that out. Finally you’ll remember that you actually have to make an effort to look good again for everyday, non-holiday life…how annoying!
Stage 4: Sadness
Reality hits you and you get mega sad when you realise you have to go back to following schedules again, paying for petrol (ugh, so expensive!) and ultimately losing your natural tan, even if it was a sunnies tan you will try and hold onto it as much as possible!
Stage 5: Denial, part 2
Oh, here it is again! Here you will refuse to think about the mammoth task of unpacking your bags (went a little overboard shopping, did we?), doing aaaall of your washing and THEN having to iron it all. OMG It’s so annoying right! This is why you refuse to think about it, it just makes your emotional state worse than it should be.
Stage 6: Optimism, part 2
You’re finally back on home soil and it’s now time to turn your emotions around and get back to your happy self! Once you get back into the swing of your non-holiday life, you’ll start to feel better. Here are some tips to help you:
– Plan a coming home party!
– Start planning your next vacay immediately
– Make a photo book of your trip
