3 yoga moves all travellers should know | by Amanda Bisk

We all know the stiff, cramped feels after getting off a long flight…. Never fear though! Fitness babe Amanda Bisk has given us her fave yoga stretches to do after a long flight and before you start exploring.

The following yoga moves feel amazing after all those hours of transit – hold each one for 10 long deep breaths in and out.

Seated Side Stretch

Great for opening up your lower back and releasing tension that usually builds up in your upper body when sitting still for long periods of time. You can sit on a cushion to make this position more comfortable (especially if you have tight hamstrings).

Think about looking up towards the ceiling/sky and rotating your ribcage upward.

Kneeling Hip Flexor

Your hip flexors tighten up dramatically when seated and can start causing all sorts of havoc on your lower back and posture. This stretch is a lifesaver!

I always do it after travel, especially after long-haul flights. Pull your bellybutton in to protect your lower back and squeeze your bottom to push your hips forward slowly. Lift arms over head and think of lifting your chest up (like someone is pulling a string above you that is attached to your breastbone).

Wide Leg Forward Fold

Not only is this stretch great for releasing your hamstrings and hips, it also increases your circulation (un-pooling blood from your legs), and gives you an amazing energy boost!

Step your feet out nice and wide and point your toes inward (like pigeon toe – this gives you an extra stretch in the outer calves)). Fold forward and reach for your outer ankles. If you’re not quite ready for that, you can rest your hands on the ground.

Lengthen though the backs of your legs by pulling your sitting bones to the sky and pulling your belly button down.
