Where to stay in Paris: Hotel Le Mareuil

When you work for a travel company, the pressure is on to pick a good great hotel when you travel. So what’s a girl who’s never been to Paris to do? Enlist the help of her expert colleagues, of course (thanks Brittany and Julie!), to find the place to stay.

And I have to say, these ladies helped me come up with the goods (phew!) with a stay at Hotel Le Mareuil. One of the newest hotels in the French capital, it has just the right dose of romance about it for a stay in the City of Love.

Location is a big consideration for any city stay with a long hit list of things to see and do. And you’re onto a winner here with the hotel living up to its name: in old French ‘mareuil’ means ‘glade’, a calm and peaceful area.

Situated in the quiet Rue de Malte with beautiful greenery lining the exterior, you feel far away from the touristy hustle and bustle but you’re within walking distance to the tres cool Marais district and funky Republique area. And only a few minutes’ walk to the closest Metro station too.

The stylish Hotel Le Mareuil reminds me why I really do love boutique hotels: the little touches (hello free wifi), familiar faces, and that feeling of a home away from home rather than just a hotel room.

When Mr LML opens the door to our top-floor suite (one of 35 rooms), I decide straight away it’s perfect. The spacious room, complete with opening windows and a series of balconies overlooking the rooftops of Paris, is picture-perfect.

So too the comfy bed, brightly coloured interior, rain shower, and handwritten welcome note and gift: chocolate after an early morning start from London is always appreciated 😉

If you want to pretend you’re more Paris local than obvious tourist and have an oasis of calm to base yourself from while still being close to the action, Hotel le Mareuil is for you.

If you stay:

Upgrade to a top-floor room – It really is worth it.
Pay a visit to the boutique wine shop across the road – Buy a bottle of champagne, ask for glasses at reception, and toast the view on your balcony. Heaven.

Take advantage of the brekky area – Perfect for something light before a day of Paris eating, the hotel prides itself on its organic local products.

Be sure to hit up the boulangerie on the corner – Your pastry needs are only a 30-second walk away.

Get a taste of French-Japanese fusion at Sept’n – A recommendation from the friendly Hotel Le Mareuil team, our first Paris dinner might not have been strictly traditional, but it sure was delicious. The foie gras on sushi rice with teriyaki sauce is a must-order. An intimate space, great service, and a one-minute walk back to your hotel: what more could you ask for?

Get to know the friendly staff – Their local tips are gold (see above), and with a member of staff on 24/7 they really are there whenever you need them.
Test out the NightCove lamp in your room – Complete with sound and light settings for everything from an energising nap to a good night’s recovery sleep. Fancy.
Stroll the streets – Get lost. Find your way again. And make your way back to your Paris sanctuary.
