Holidays in Yuasa-cho

Yep. We understand. Wanderlust — it gets right into your bones. So, isn't it high time you booked your next adventure? Yuasa-cho awaits!

It sits 130 kilometres from Okayama and its energetic streets.

Does a sunrise with the sparkling sea as your backdrop sound appealing? Then grab your map and take off to Nishikinohama Beach Park, 45 kilometres to the north.

The splendour of Mother Nature can be found in multiple places around Yuasa-cho. Just 45 kilometres away, Sandanbeki Cave is a terrific place to start. Aiya Falls sits 45 kilometres away and is another popular spot for a bit of downtime.

The best snow is always in the morning, so be sure to set your alarm early the night before heading to Rokkosan Ski Area.

You'll discover even more just down the road. Hirogawa-cho, 1 kilometre to the west, is popular for the Kokokuji Temple and the Choho-ji Temple. Alternatively, if the Nakano B.C. Brewery and Susa Shrine are more appealing, go 4 kilometres northeast from Yuasa-cho to Aridagawa-cho.

Plan on going to Kainan? This destination is just 12 kilometres to the north. If you're setting up camp here, make sure you visit Marina City Sea Fishing Park, the Onzanso-en Garden and Wanpaku Park. Also consider swinging by Porto Europa and the Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Natural History.

Bank cards? Check. Passport? Check. But have you packed your appetite? With some fabulous food and drink to sample around these parts, it's the one thing you shouldn't travel without.

If you're leafing through a menu, there's a strong chance you'll see meals with beef or noodles. They're some ingredients which are commonly used in the cuisine here.

While you're in Yuasa-cho, why not eat like a local? That means sitting down to a meal of tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) or yudofu (tofu simmered with kelp), a couple of the region's most loved dishes.

If you love dessert, you're not going to be disappointed. Try anpan (sweet roll), a delicious treat that's sure to satisfy your sugar cravings.

If you love a frosty pint every now and then, head to the closest bar and request Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen. It's best enjoyed with a side of joke-cracking and mingling with the regulars.

Mixed or straight — the bartender should know the nicest way to drink junmaishu. When the night calls for something a bit stronger, it should be the first drink you order!

Work on the language barrier by memorising some words and expressions in the local tongue. You'll gain a more satisfying experience and a few new friends while you're at it! First off the bat, have a go at saying 'Dōmo arigatō'. This translates as 'thank you'. 'Oyasumi nasai', which means 'good night', is another one you may need.

Want to join in on the Birthday of Emperor Akihito celebrations? Mark down the 23rd of December in your travel diary and get ready to have some fun!

Like all good things in life, your trip to Yuasa-cho must eventually come to an end. When it's finally time to depart, say one last "Sayōnara" and spend your leftover holiday allowance on some unique souvenirs.

Kansai International Airport (KIX) is the closest terminal, 45 kilometres to the north. Ensure you leave yourself more than enough time to reach it.

"Die Unterkunft liegt mitten im alten Viertel der Soja-Stadt. Die Umgebung ist wirklich pittoresk und das Haus selbst ist sehr toll renoviert. Die Betten waren nach den vielen Futon-Matratzen eine wohltuende Abwechslung."
