Nothing beats getting up with the sun and finding some fresh powder at Whakapapa Ski Area. Once you've mastered all the runs there, pack up your snowboard or skis and check out what's on offer at Turoa Ski Area.
Motuoapa, 8 kilometres to the south, is popular for the River Vineyard and the Tongariro National Trout Centre. Why not make your way there and see these excellent sights? Alternatively, you could stop at Turangi, 12 kilometres to the southwest of Te Rangiita, for Tokaanu Thermal Pools and Turangi i-SITE Visitor Centre.
Want to visit Taupo Hot Springs, A.C. Baths and Taupo Bungy? Make your way to Taupo, 30 kilometres to the northeast, and set up base. These sights, along with the Taupo Museum and Art Gallery and the Barbary, are all nearby.
