Travel is life. So pack your bags, kiss your goldfish goodbye and take yourself off to Ota! A Tokyo neighbourhood, it's a seriously good base for discovering this sensational city's sights. With 8,300,000 people calling the capital of Japan home, you're bound to meet some new friends (or maybe even a new bae) while you're in town. From Haneda Airport, Ota is a commute of 3 kilometres to the northwest. If you're arriving from the city centre, you'll find the neighbourhood 12 kilometres to the south.
This city is bursting with exciting things to do, and you'll find many of them near Ota. It's not easy to pick the best sights, but the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum and the Kawasaki Daishi are two you can't miss. After taking a look at those, you'll want to continue onwards to Rainbow Bridge and the Keio University. While you're in town, think about exploring other neighbourhoods to experience more of what Tokyo offers. Keihinjima and Jonanjima are good suggestions that are close by.
Tokyo Tower is certainly among the most recognisable sights of Tokyo. Visiting it won't be a challenge, as it's just 2 kilometres from the downtown area.
Getting cabin fever in Ota? Then get out and see Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Tsukiji Fish Market, two fabulous highlights in the centre of the city. Alternatively, have a wander around Yasukuni Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum.
If you have a keen interest in the arts, you won't want to miss the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ryushi Museum and the O Art Museum. Take a look around and if one of the pieces impresses you, chat to the staff about its background.
Check for any upcoming events before heading over to check out the displays and exhibits at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, Telecom Center Observatory, the Tokyo Port Museum and the Toshiba Science Museum.
Oedo Onsen Monogatari Hot Springs, Ikegami Baien Plum Tree Garden, Heiwajima Hotspring and Tokyo International Airport International Terminal Observation Deck are among the most impressive spots for nature buffs to get some fresh air.
Whether you're itching to take a relaxing stroll or have lunch with some friends, the nearby green spaces are great places to be. Take your pick from Nishikamata Park, Omori Midden Site Park, Shinagawa Park and Shiokaze Park.
The nearby heritage attractions will give you a better understanding of the area's interesting past. The Museum of Maritime Science, the Folk Museum of Ota Borough, the Shinagawa History Museum and the Kujirazuka are sure to impress.
Learn about the region's spiritual side or just reflect in the peaceful surroundings of Wakamiya Hachiman-gu Shrine, the Ikegami Honmonji Temple, Ebara Shrine and Shinagawa Shrine.
No matter how you like to roll, there's a room waiting for you in Ota. For accommodation that won't break the bank, check out the Hotel Mets Kawasaki (72 2 Horikawa Cho Saiwai Ku) or the Guest House Shinagawa-shuku (1-22-16 Kita-Shinagawa). Alternatively, let the friendly staff at The Strings by InterContinental Tokyo or The Westin Tokyo take care of your every need. After all, what are getaways for if not splashing cash?
