It's located 65 kilometres to the northwest of Moscow, the capital city of Russia.

Bukhta Radosti, 45 kilometres away, is the place you'll want to head if you need some fresh air and some time out in nature. It's well worth the journey.

Get ready to experience some exciting soccer action at Rodina Stadium in Khimki, 45 kilometres away. Show your love for home team the FC Khimki by wearing a few pieces of red and black!

Snow bunnies and powder hounds adore Kosmynka, as it offers easy access to Kant Ski Slope and Waypark Ski Slope. Be sure to layer up! These snow-capped playgrounds can get decidedly chilly.

Novokartsevo, 8 kilometres to the east, is popular for Stepanovo Ski Resort and Sports Park "Volen". Why not make your way there and check out these outstanding sights? Alternatively, you could stop at Astretsovo, 13 kilometres to the east of Kosmynka, for Leonid Tyagachev Mountain Ski Club and Sorochany.

Roughly 60 kilometres to the east, Sergiyev Posad is a destination that has something for everyone. Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, Refectory Church of St Sergius and Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit are all nearby. That said, Chapel at the Well and Cathedral of the Assumption may be more your thing.

Getting outdoors and experiencing the surrounding landscape doesn't get much better when you can choose from engaging activities like ice skating and hiking.

If you get caught in nasty weather, take cover in one of the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries, craft workshops and theaters.

Feel like you need to spend some time outside? Consider an outing to one of the surrounding area's open-air museums and gardens.

If you're eager to better understand the region's past, why not drop by one or more of its old towns, historic mansions, historic palaces and war relics and monuments? It pays to do a little research beforehand to get an idea of their historical value.

You don't need to be religious to appreciate Kosmynka's churches, cathedrals and monasteries. Learn more about the local beliefs and find some serenity while you're at it.

Treat your taste buds and fill your Instagram with mouthwatering pics by gorging on some of the region's excellent food and drink offerings. Just don't forget to hashtag 'yum'!

This part of the world has its own cuisine based on local tastes and available ingredients. You'll discover rye and oats are regularly used in much of the fare.

Lymonnyk (lemon pie) is a dessert that tells the story of this place in a single bite. Put in an order for a serving and then get another to go!

Thirsty? Throw back a glass or two of Baltika Premium Lager, a beer that needs to be on your bucket (or pint) list.

Knowing how to say a handful of words in the local language will make your trip through the Moscow Oblast region that little bit less challenging. You may be glad you learnt 'Skol'ko eto stoit?', which translates to 'how much is this?'. Perhaps you'll find 'Kak delá?' easier to get your head around? This means 'how are you?'.

What better way to discover more about a place than by witnessing a day of national celebration? There'll be plenty of festivities planned for Russia Day on the 12th of June.

Like all good things, your time here must eventually come to an end. When it's time to pack up your belongings and head off, say a last "Uvidimsya pozzhe" and spend your leftover holiday allowance on some special souvenirs.

With a bit of preparation, making it to Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO), the nearest airport, won't be too much trouble. It's approximately 40 kilometres south of the centre of Kosmynka.
