Holidays in Korovou

Tossing and turning all night? Could be that intrepid spirit of yours! So what's stopping you? Get up, dig out your passport and book a trip to Korovou!

The well-known city of Suva is within relatively easy reach of Korovou. It's found about 40 kilometres to the south.

Is there anything better than reclining and reading a book on the shoreline? Plan an outing to Namatakula Beach or Naigani Beach for a great day out.

There is a range of delightful natural attractions around Korovou. Why not head 30 kilometres to Colo-I-Suva Forest Park? Alternatively, immerse yourself in some of nature's best work at Nasoli Island, 30 kilometres away.

Sports fanatics don't need to worry about being left out in the cold during their visit. Fiji Museum is 40 kilometres away in Suva and the perfect place to get your sporting fill. Make sure you check the event schedule to see what's on.

We recommend hopping in a car and going to Ovalau. It's about 30 kilometres to the northeast and known for Fiji Museum and Sacred Heart Church.

Your eyes shouldn't have all the fun while you're in Fiji. Give your taste buds a little loving too by trying the local food and beverage offerings. After all, you can't say you've really experienced a destination until you've tasted its flavours.

If you're poring over a menu, there's a strong chance you'll come across dishes with sweet potato or coconut. They're two ingredients which are often used in the cooking here.

When Korovou locals talk to you about their favourite foods, you're likely to hear kokodo (marinated raw fish) or palusami (steamed meat with coconut and taro leaves) mentioned once or twice. These well-loved dishes form part of the region's identity and should be on any foodie's must-eat list.

If you're not one to say no to dessert, you're not going to be disappointed. Be sure to order mixed rootcrops dessert, a tempting treat that's guaranteed to satisfy your sweet tooth.

If you truly want to see the big pitcher, grab the hopportunity to throw back a beer. Schooner rather than later! Terrible beer puns aside, don't forget to try out Fiji Taki Beer, one of the top local brews.

On ice or neat — the barkeeper ought to know the best way to enjoy Bounty White Rum. If your evening begs for something a little more potent, this tipple does the trick!

Work on that pesky communication barrier by memorising some phrases in the local tongue. You'll gain a more enriching experience and some new friends while you're at it! Firstly, try to get your mouth around 'Vanuinui vinaka'. It means 'good luck'. 'Ko via meke kei au?', which means 'would you like to dance?', is also rather common.

If you've got the good luck to be in Korovou on the 7th of September, get ready to have a ball! Constitution Day sees crowds of people celebrating this auspicious date.

Like all good things in life, your trip to Korovou must eventually come to an end. When it's time to pack up your belongings and leave, say "Au sa liu mada" and spend your remaining holiday allowance on some unique keepsakes.

Situated 25 kilometres to the south is Nausori Airport (SUV), the nearest terminal. Make sure you have enough time to reach it.
