Holidays in Jongno

Do you check out every travel deal that pops into your inbox? Catch yourself frequently stalking travel hashtags? You need a holiday and Jongno, a neighbourhood in Seoul, is yelling your name. With some 10,300,000 people calling the capital of South Korea home, you're bound to meet a few new friends (or maybe even a new bae) during your stay. Once you've hit the tarmac at Gimpo International Airport and grabbed your bags from the carousel, Jongno will be a drive of 16 kilometres to the east. From the centre of Seoul, it's 3 kilometres to the north.

This city is filled with sensational things to do, and you'll discover many of them near Jongno. It's no easy task to pick the top attractions, but Dongdaemun Market and Gyeongbok Palace are two you shouldn't miss. Don't forget to put the National Museum and the Korea University on your list as well. For a better perspective of this vibrant city as a whole, spend time in the close-by neighbourhoods of Samcheong-dong and Hyehwa.

The COEX Convention and Exhibition Center is one of those attractions that needs to be seen in real life, not just in travel magazines. Located just 9 kilometres from the centre of the city, you're not going to have any excuse to miss it.

Feeling a little restless in Jongno? Get out and discover the Sungnyemun Gate and Deoksugung Palace, two fabulous sights in the centre of Seoul. N Seoul Tower and the Jogyesa Temple are two more of the area's greatest draws.

Korea House, Supsok Hanbang Land, the Seven Luck Casino Millennium Seoul Hilton Branch and sanmotoonge are perfect for those without the kids in tow.

The area's cultural sites, such as the Sejong Cultural Center, the Arko Art Center, the Gallery Hyundai and the Kukje Gallery, cannot be missed!

While you might be able to see a great variety of art on the web these days, there's nothing better than experiencing it first-hand. Immerse yourself in the area's creative side by visiting the Seoul Museum of Art, the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul and the Artsonje Center.

Check for any special events that might be on before heading on over to take a look at the displays and exhibits at the Lock Museum, the Modern Design Museum, the Ewha Womans University Museum and the Agriculture Museum.

Watching a first-class show is an uplifting experience. Book tickets and take your seats at the Chongdong Theater, the National Theater, the Seoul Namsan Gugakdang and the Hongdae Music Show Theatre for a special night out.

Kids can have the best time in rather unexpected places. Make some memories with them at Ssamji-gil, the Seoul Animation Center, the Children's Folk Museum and the Namsan Cable Car.

If you want something a little more action-packed to do with the kids, you should head to Seodaemun Independence Park, Taehwa Bowling Center and Hannam Bowling Center.

On a clear blue day, fill your lungs with fresh air and enjoy a spot of nature at Mt. Inwang and Baeksasil Valley.

Make time for some exercise at the Namsan Botanical Garden and Dream Forest. A long walk through any one of these green reserves will reinvigorate your senses.

If the energy of city life is wearing you thin, recharge your batteries with a visit to one of the nearby parks. Namsan Park, Tapgol Park, Sajik Park and Marronnier Park are delightful spots to take some time out.

Sometimes the simplest way to get to know the locals is by walking around the shops. Remember to call in to Namdaemun Market, Lotte Department Store, Yongsan Electronics Market and Seoul Folk Flea Market.

The War Memorial of Korea, Changgyong Palace, Changdeokgung Palace and the Sungkyunkwan University are sure to impress visiting history buffs. Do some research beforehand so you can really appreciate these fascinating attractions.

Discover the region's spiritual aspects at Jongmyo Shrine, Myeongdong Cathedral, Waryongmyo Shrine and the Inwangsa Temple. These attractions are worth checking out whether you're religious or not.

It's time to fine-tune your Mexican wave and prepare your vocal chords. Come along and cheer on either of the local teams, the Korean Republic National Team and Seoul FC, at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
