Accommodation In French Polynesia

Made up of over 100 different stunning islands that are split between five main island groups, French Polynesia is as diverse, beautiful and exotic, as you can would imagine. The landscapes are incredibly varied and you can relax in style in one of our gorgeous French Polynesia hotels.

History

French Polynesia was one of the last known places in the world to be settled by humans. It is thought that the first people on the islands were migrants from Asia who arrived in around 1500BC. Polynesian groups then began to occupy the islands, until the Europeans arrived in the 1500s. British, Spanish, and French explorers were among those to visit the islands and the French took control of some areas in the 1840s with the aim of converting them to Catholicism. Colonisation then occurred, and the French united all islands in 1889 and created a French protectorate. In the late 1940s people living on the islands were given French nationality and French Polynesia was classed as an overseas territory. Later years saw the islands being greater self-autonomy.

Things to do

With so many islands all spread out over vast areas it’s difficult to know where to begin! Each island offers its own unique charms and vibes, and taking boat trips hopping between several different islands is very popular. Head to one of the many lookout points for amazing views to rival those in any glossy travel magazine! If you fancy a bit of adventure, try surfing, kite surfing, and wind surfing. Shopping and dining

You’ll find some of the tastiest and freshest seafood dishes on the islands, as well as meals made using delicious and fresh locally grown tropical fruits and vegetables.
