Fernweh, FOMO, wanderlust. Whatever you call it, there's only one way to fix it — take off to Bunkyo. No matter what sort of adventures you're looking for, this Tokyo neighbourhood has loads going for it. One of the best things about travelling is the people you meet along the way. And with 8,300,000 people living in the capital of Japan, there's plenty of opportunities to meet a few new BFFs. From Haneda Airport, Bunkyo is a journey of 19 kilometres to the north. If you're making your way from the city centre, the suburb is 5 kilometres to the north.

With many of the city's leading attractions close by, Bunkyo is a wonderland for sightseers. From Tokyo Tower to Tokyo Sky Tree, you won't run out of things to keep you on the move. After taking a look at those, you'll want to head onwards to the Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Imperial Palace. While you're here, think about exploring some other neighbourhoods to appreciate more of what Tokyo offers. Korakuen and Kagurazaka are some attractive areas that are a short distance away.

Can't wait to visit Meiji Jingu Shrine? Located just 6 kilometres to the southwest, it's a breeze getting to this renowned sight from Bunkyo.

There are tons of reasons why so many people head straight to the centre of Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Tsukiji Fish Market are two of the best of them. Alternatively, take a look around Yasukuni Shrine and the Tokyo National Museum.

Need a break from the little ones? Look up a babysitter and go to Nakajima Teahouse, Shinjuku I Land, Omoide Yokocho and Fukagawa Tokyo Modern Kan.

Some fantastic cultural attractions are waiting for you. Start at the National Art Center Tokyo, the Laforet Museum, the Design Festa Gallery and the Fujifilm Square.

Regional galleries such as the Mori Art Museum, the Nezu Art Museum, the Tokyo Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Museum of Western Art are a doorway into the creative history of the region. Why not check if there are any upcoming openings and observe some of the remarkable works?

You never know what you'll discover when perusing the interesting collections of the Tokyo National Science Museum, Bridgestone Museum of Art, the Japanese Sword Museum and the Kanto Earthquake Memorial Museum. If you don't want to miss a thing, check for guided tours.

What nicer way to end a day's activities than with something to eat and a live show? Check the programme listings at the Kabuki-za Theatre, Suntory Hall, the New National Theatre Tokyo and the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan.

There's nothing like going on holiday with the kids to make you feel youthful again. Unleash the child within at Akihabara Electric Town, Sunshine Aquarium, the Tokyo National Diet Library and the Chuo Library.

As every well-trodden traveller knows, this big blue planet is brimming with amazing creatures. See some of them up close and personal at the Ueno Zoo and Higashiitabashi Park Children's Zoo.

Are the kids getting tired of all the history and culture? Take a break and make your way to one of the local family friendly attractions. Hanayashiki Amusement Park, Namco Namja Town, Meiji-jingu Gaien Ice Skating Rink and Arakawa Yuen are some much-loved options.

If you're a lover of the outdoors, stop in at the East Garden, the Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, the Kyu Iwasaki-tei Gardens and the Meiji-jingu Garden.

To see some native animals and plants, head out to the Chinzan-so Garden, the University of Tokyo Botanical Garden and the Koishikawa Botanical Garden.

A charming feature of this place is its nearby public parks. Amid all the activity, there are plenty of places to take a short walk or read a book. Ueno Park, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Rikugi-en Garden and Hibiya-koen are some good options.

A wonderful way to relive your holiday is by returning home with a few mementos. See what you can pick up at Mitsukoshi, Omotesando Hills, Nekobukuro and Shinjuku Isetan.
