Holidays in Brunswick

Sick of pointless meetings that go on forever? How about that painfully awks water cooler chit-chat? Say 'Bye, Felicia' to work and take off to Brunswick, a neighbourhood in the state capital, Melbourne. Melbourne has a population of around 4,200,000 people. Try to meet a couple of them! To make your way to Brunswick from Tullamarine Airport, grab a taxi and travel southeast for 15 kilometres. From the centre of Melbourne, it's 5 kilometres to the north.

Brunswick is a sightseer's paradise. A lot of the city's best attractions are dotted near this interesting neighbourhood, including the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex and Federation Square. The must-see sights of the University of Melbourne and the RMIT University are also at your fingertips. While you're in town, consider stopping by some other neighbourhoods to see more of what Melbourne offers. Brunswick East and Princes Hill are good suggestions that aren't too far away.

No getaway to Melbourne is complete without spending a bit of time at St. Kilda Beach. As far as wondrous attractions go, it's up there with the best. It's just 6 kilometres from the downtown area.

You'll never want for things to do in the centre of the city. Luna Park and the Melbourne Zoo will capture your attention for hours. Alternatively, take a look around Melbourne Aquarium and the Melbourne Museum.

Travelling without the little tackers? The Carlton and United Breweries, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and Young & Jackson's should be at the top of your schedule.

The area's various cultural places, such as the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, the Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre, the Alcaston Gallery and the Gertrude Contemporary Art Space, really can't be missed!

Local galleries such as the National Gallery of Victoria, the Ian Potter Museum of Art and the Johnston Collection show off the creative history of the region. Why not see if there's an exhibition opening on and observe some of the wonderful works?

Keep an eye out for any special events before heading on over to have a look at the displays at the Immigration Museum, the National Sports Museum, the Australian Racing Museum and Utopian Slumps.

You can't beat the buzz of excitement when a show is about to kick off. Take your seat and watch the curtains rise at the Forum Theatre, the Regent Theatre, the Princess Theatre and Melbourne Recital Centre.

Do you know your albatross from your eagle and your wedge from your wood? Whether you're a magician on the green or just starting out, golf is a game for everyone! You can play a few rounds here at the Yarra Bend Golf Course and the Westgate Golf Course.

Kids don't want to spend all day sightseeing. Let them have some fun and spend a day at one or two of the area's action-packed attractions. You can choose from Melbourne City Baths, the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, Tech Assault and TunzaFun Harbour Town Docklands.

Shut down your phone, disengage from the stresses of everyday life and enjoy the serenity of nature at Eureka Skydeck 88, Merri Creek Trail, the CERES Community Environment Park and Ormiston Gorge and Pound.

An appealing feature of this place is its nearby public parks. In the midst of all the action, you'll find plenty of places to relax and read the newspaper. Royal Park, Carlton Gardens, Fitzroy Gardens and Flagstaff Gardens are some good options.

A holiday is a splendid opportunity to splash out a bit and grab yourself some knickknacks. Make sure you swing by Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne Central, Bourke Street Mall and Victoria Gardens Shopping Centre!

Make your way over for a fun and educational history lesson at Old Melbourne Gaol, the Royal Exhibition Building, the Victoria University of Technology and Melbourne Town Hall. Looking at pictures online simply can't compare!

Local sacred places, such as St Patrick's Cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral, Abbotsford Convent and Scots Church, give you the opportunity to reflect on life's big questions in a serene setting.

Few things in life are quite as thrilling as attending a live sporting match. Why not catch the Carlton Football Club, the Essendon Football Club or the North Melbourne Football Club battle it out for the win at their home ground of Etihad Stadium?
