Baiyun is a massive district of the bustling modern Chinese city of
Guangzhou, and with the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on its outer cusp, it’s also the city’s transport hub. So whether you’re looking for a hotel near Guangzhou’s airport, or a central hotel that puts you closer to the city sights, we’ve got a hotel in Baiyun to suit!
Wondering what you can do in Baiyun? The most popular attraction – and a favourite for the whole city – is White Cloud Mountain (Baiyun Shan or Baiyun Mountain). It’s one of the ‘Eight Sights’ of Guangzhou, so don’t miss it! Rising up just north of the city, it’s certainly a peaceful change to the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You can hike to various viewpoints around the mountain, catch a bus, or take the scenic cable car to Moxing Ridge, the highest point! Wander along the winding paths, explore the temples, relax in the tea houses and get amazing pics from the fab lookouts. You probably won’t be the only one though – over 20 million people come here every year!
Away from White Cloud Mountain, another great temple is Guangzhou Baiyun Jingang Zen Temple, and there’s some great wholesale shopping to be found. Everybody loves a bargain! For cosmetics, skincare and beauty buys check out Guangzhou Mei Bo Cheng, Xingfa Plaza and Yifa Plaza. Otherwise, head to the Knitwear Wholesale Market for some unique knitted fashions or to Zhonggang Pijucheng, one of the city’s largest leather wholesalers.
If you’re staying close to the city, the rest of Guangzhou’s sights are just up the road. Don’t miss the amazing views from Canton Tower, one of the world’s tallest buildings, or the 2000-year-old tomb and palace site of the Nanyue King. You’ll also love Shamiam Island in the middle of the Pearl River, more shopping (of course!), and stacks of fab dining and nightlife.
