Staycation nation: Adelaide is the number one Australian city for a staycation

According to lastminute.com.au many Australian holiday-makers are such avid fans of their own city, they don’t actually leave it when they take a break.

The lastminute.com.au research* reveals Aussies like nothing better than splashing out on a cheeky hotel stay in their own backyard, with 40% of people having booked a staycation in their own city.  

Adelaideans are most likely to book a hotel staycation in their own city, followed by those from Perth and Sydney. By way of contrast, people from the Nation’s capital, Canberra, are the least likely to opt to stay in their home city when taking a break. Read more

Aussies chucking sickies to take long weekends away

According to lastminute.com.au research, the tradition of ‘chucking a sickie’ appears to be alive and well in Australia, with one in four (25%) people admitting to claiming sick leave the day before, or the day after a long weekend - in order to extend a public holiday long weekend away.

The ‘Living lastminute’ survey of 3300+ Aussies, showed that younger workers (Gen Y) are the most likely to take a fake sickie, with more than one in three (35%) being cheeky enough to shun the office at the last minute for an extended long weekend away. Read more
