Star Ratings in France (Direction de l'Industrie Touristique)

Hotels in France are officially classified by the Ministry of Tourism (Ministère du Tourisme) and officially graded from 1 to 4 stars based on the facilities offered, with the rating displayed on a blue sign outside the hotel.

Hotels with 2 or more stars must have a lift where appropriate, a telephone in every bedroom, and at least 40% of the rooms ensuite. Hotels with 3 stars must offer breakfast in the bedrooms and 80% of the rooms must be ensuite. Hotels with 4 stars must have a restaurant and all the bedrooms ensuite.
