Five star night out on the GC

Nothing says ‘fancy weekend away’ than indulging in the surrounds of a five star hotel. Now if you can’t quite stretch your budget, my #hottip is to become an honorary guest by getting among all the other things said hotel has to offer.

It’s with this in mind, that my Sydney-sider bestie Angela and I set off on a glam night out at the Marriott Surfers Paradise Resort & Spa on the Gold Coast.

Marriott

It’s these details that ensure this property is one of the best on the GC. (*Note I was breezing around due to being so relaxed from my earlier massage- you can read more on that here.)

In order to get glammed up for our night out, Angela and I decide to have our hair done at Lattouf Hair and Day Spa which is discretely located on the first level of the Marriott (who knew!). The Day Spa is home to seven treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room, gym, jacuzzi (on the outdoor deck if you please) as well as a full salon with colouring table, and the best pedicure stations I have ever seen! Our stylists, Serenity and Rebecca turn up the glamour dial and after some serious pampering, teasing, blow-drying, pinning, curling and more teasing, we are ready for action…and cocktails!

Getting glam!

I’m a bit old school and I love nothing more than a great Lobby Bar and the Marriott #nailsit. We are met at the door by Adam, the new F&B Manager, and are whisked to a prime possie overlooking the amazing Marriott pool (that needs a whole other blog post!). After a quick look at the extensive cocktail list I pick the Passion8 and Angela opts for a classic French Martini.

Five star night out!

Now not being ones to break with tradition, nothing goes better with cocktails than canapés, so we decide to order some of those as well. Our drinks arrive just in the nick of time (relaxing on a girls weekend is thirsty work) and as we take the first sips, our canapés arrive (immediate mouth watering ensues). Best on ground were the scallops with spicy aioli but to be honest it was all outstanding. After a few more cocktails (please) and as much of the canapés that we could eat we decide to make our way to dinner at Citrique.

This is where it gets serious: second only to my love of a great Lobby Bar, is a classic five star hotel Seafood Buffet. I’ve done a fair few of these in my time and what I look for on a Seafood Buffet Safari are the Big Four Game: prawns, mud crab, bugs and oysters. Here we find ourselves ticking all four boxes #winning. I have to be honest in that I focus my attention on the Big Four but this buffet has something for everyone. From a wood-fire pizza oven, a selection of hand carved roasts, Asian dim sims, whole baked fish and more salads and sashimi than I can literally do justice, this is not one for the faint-hearted and quite frankly it’s a Gold Coast #mustdo. After s e v e r a l trips to the buffet we finally move onto dessert. The dessert buffet just makes me smile (insert major sweet tooth here), you can create your own sundae, enjoy various bite sized cakes and tarts. It would be rude not to at least sample a few bites (!).

The Seafood Buffet

The Marriott Surfers Paradise Resort & Spa is a welcome addition to any trip to the Gold Coast. Weather on a girls weekend, a romantic rendezvous or even taking the kids, this spot is undeniably a classic. As I said, if you can’t stretch your budget to stay the night, fake it and enjoy all the spoils.
