Overview
The Angel at Lavenham is a Tudor Inn, set in the Market Place in the centre of England's finest Medieval village. Between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury on the A134 just off the A14.
Step back in time to the Tudor era and visit the Angel, this 9 bedroomed original Tudor Inn situated in the Market Place of the picturesque village of Lavenham. The hotel reflects its period with decor and furnishings in-keeping with the history of the hotel, whilst still offering every modern amenity you would expect of a traditional Inn. Open fires and exposed beams really add to the atmosphere. The ambience of the buildings exudes from every corner in this interesting place where you can wander through cobbled streets and alleys to a bygone era.
There are nine en-suite bedrooms, seven Doubles, one Twin and a Family room located on the ground floor. All tastefully decorated in-keeping with the buildings history, with exposed beams and elegant furnishings. All rooms are equipped with every modern day convenience to make your stay comfortable.
Chefs at the Angel consistently produce a high standard of food that has earned an AA rosette each year since 1995. All the food is prepared on the premises from fresh ingredients, locally purchased whenever possible. There are four different dining styles; the bar, restaurant, the snug (suitable for parties of up to 16) and weather permitting the front terrace and the gardens.
The Angel was first licensed in 1420 and is thought to be Lavenham’s oldest Inn. Although much altered over the centuries it still retains much of its Tudor character. Around 1500 the gable ends were added to the original medieval house and brick chimneys installed. The pargetting of the solar ceiling is believed to have been done sometime in the early 17th century. Then in the 18th century the roof of the original house was raised, sash windows installed and the whole of the outside covered to resemble a stone building. Restoration work was carried out in the 1950’s and changes made in 1990 saw the creation of the present open plan ground floor layout and the installation of en-suite bathrooms.
