YHA Greymouth Kainga-ra is nestled amongst the bush-clad hills of Greymouth, the largest town in the South Island's wild and wonderful West Coast. This Qualmark rated 4 star and Enviro Silver hostel was the local Marist Brothers Residence in the 1930s and a lot of the original native wood features have been retained in the hostel creating a unique and welcoming hostel. Some quirky and spacious budget backpacker accommodation is available in the converted old Chapel and the Brothers' study room is now a comfortable lounge.

On the side of a steep hill and facing west overlooking the Tasman Sea, the YHA Greymouth hostel boasts fantastic views with great opportunities for a perfect sunset shot. On clear days, you can sometimes catch a glimpse of Mount Cook or the Hector Dolphins from the river mouth! Short bush walks are available close to the hostel for the nature lover.

YHA Greymouth Kainga-ra hostel is full of character and offers a warm, genuine welcome to backpackers and holiday makers.
