Overview
Very high quality small backpackers located just outside Christchurch CBD… Haka Lodge is a hostel with a twist.

This cosy sanctuary is a perfect hideaway for backpackers and mid-budget travellers looking to escape the rush of the city centre.

We offer a range of accommodation options from dorm beds to private double and twin rooms to our self-contained flat.

The grounds of the lodge are home to a great variety of different native plants and trees which veil the house from the view of any passersby. Beside the main house is our vegetable garden and there is plenty of on-street parking.

The lodge has inherited its quirky character from its parent company Haka Tours, who run small group adventure and snow tours all over New Zealand.

We are happy to organise all your travel bookings and activities around Christchurch and the rest of New Zealand.

Getting There
We are located on the corner of Linwood Avenue and St John's Road, 518 Linwood Avenue. (opposite Oderings Garden Centre). You have to turn into a service road, Wanstead Place to access the property, after the grass area turn left. We are on Linwood Avenue but back from the main road – hence why people often get lost!


From the airport:
Shuttle - we recommend a shared shuttle as the best value method of transport to our lodge. You can pre-book your shuttle with J & L Taxis and Shuttles on +64 3 389 9879 or email jonn123@xtra.co.nz - They will meet you at the luggage carousel (domestic) or arrivals area (international). The cost is $30.00 for one or two people, with only $5 per extra person.


Public Bus Service – You can catch the number 3 bus from the airport, the bus travels towards Sumner for roughly $8. This journey is about 50 minutes long. It takes you through the city first. Don’t get off the bus until Ferry Road, Woolston immediately after the Post Shop on your left. If you ask the driver nicely they will hopefully stop at the correct bus stop for you.
Then walk north 10 minutes down St John’s Street to a cross junction and turn left. The lodge is on your left beside the turning circle. (Alternatively, if you want to explore the city change at the city centre bus station and get the number 21 bus as below.)


From the city centre: the number 21 bus goes from the central bus station to right outside our lodge in 15 minutes. You hopefully should know when to get off the bus because the road you are on turns from a dual carriageway into a single carriageway and then you will see a BP gas station on your left - you need to get off straight after here. If you are unsure, tell the bus driver you need to get off just before “Oderings Garden Centre” on Linwood Ave. Then cross the road and you should find us!

If you are driving from the airport:
It takes 30 minutes from the airport - head down Memorial Avenue towards the city and turn right at the very end of the road, onto Deans Avenue. At the end of Deans Avenue turn left onto Moorhouse Avenue, which is a large dual carriageway that runs south of the city. Continue along here for 10-15 minutes, in which time it will turn into Ferry Road. Take a left at Hargood Street continue for 2 minutes and then a right onto Linwood Avenue. Turn almost immediately right (opposite the BP gas station) onto the slip road Wanstead Place that runs parallel with the main road. We are at the very end of the road, where there is a turning circle - the lodge is on your right behind the wooden gate.
