Overview
In the rolling foothills of the Southern Alps just out of Christchurch you'll find Gunyah Country Estate. Here we indulge our guests in the understated grace and style of true quality in one of New Zealand's grand old rural homesteads. If your wish is to experience the true New Zealand of mountains, scenery and outdoor pursuits, you couldn't find a more central base than Gunyah.
Set amidst beautiful gardens and woodland walks, Gunyah's tranquil surroundings and gracious accommodation provide a magnificent retreat for the discerning traveller who appreciates quality, culture, heritage and service.
With just 5 suites, Gunyah is a haven of warm and discreet hospitality just 45 minutes from the city centre. Your hosts take pride in their magnificent estate with its extraordinary surrounding countryside.
Every room features a private ensuite bathroom. The beds are deliciously comfortable and are dressed in the best Italian linen with snug wool underlay’s and electric blankets on all beds. All rooms are light, warm and sunny and have distinctly different views of the Alps, the hills and the surrounding countryside.
In the dining room at Gunyah you will be treated to the sumptuous tastes of the freshest local fare prepared by our European chef. Every detail and refinement is catered to, so that you can relax and enjoy the delights of your meal in a warm and convivial environment.
This is what our guests have to say about us:
We found our stay highly enjoyable. The service and room was just wonderful. We had one of the most memorable dining experiences (and trust me we have had a few). The combination of ambience, love for detail and divine cooking was just amazing. This was followed by a wonderful night’s sleep and yet another memorable breakfast. When have you last had starched linen napkins and fine silver on your breakfast table? The hosts are to be applauded for their level of sophistication. We hope to get another chance to stay at Gunyah soon.
