The house is maintained in it's original condition and is a registered Historic Places building. It is set in a 240 acre remnant of virgin lowland rainforest that has been enclosed in a predator-proof fence.
The bird life is prolific and includes many rare and endangered birds such as stitchbird, saddleback, North Island robin, bellbird and wood pigeon flying free in a natural environment.
The forest is home to "Ratanui" which is believed to be the largest northern rata in New Zealand.
Guests can walk the forest tracks or sit on the enormous verandah enjoying views of over one hundred kilometres to the far off mountains.
A fully licensed cafe is open 7 days and dinners are available by prior arrangement. Free unlimited wireless internet is available to all guests.
Just 20 minutes from Wanganui, Bushy Park is a wonderful retreat for those wanting to 'get away from it all'.
