Watazen-Ryokan is a hotel with the traditional Japanese style situated in the heart of Kyoto city. We have no curfew.

What is the difference between Ryokan and hotel?

Hotel offers you only a space. In the hotel room, you may feel like at home. But in Ryokan you will feel as very special guest. Ryokan has the room clerks (Kyakushitsugakari) that always take special care of all guests.

What is Ryokan?

Watazen Ryokan is Japanese traditional inn.
The rooms are in Japanese style with Tatami floor, each with bathroom and restroom.
In the evening the Japanese type of bed (Futon) is prepared.
Room amenities: tea set, Yukata, bath towel, face towel, tooth brush, etc.
All rooms are equipped with air-condition, refrigerator and safety box.
Watazen Ryokan has a big bath space. (It is not an Onsen but big Ofuro, Japanese type of bathroom).
While staying in ryokan, almost all Japanese enjoy the Ofuro, and after taking a bath go to sleep wearing Yukata.
There is a wireless internet connection in the lobby and you can use it freely.
For the guests without lap top, we can lend our free of charge.
Watazen Ryokan does not have a curfew. Front desk is open 24 hours.
When you go out you can leave the room key at the front and when you return you can take it back.

About the breakfast

We serve the breakfast in the big dining hall from which you can enjoy the view at the garden while having your meal.
The reservation of the breakfast can be made at the check-in time. Without the reservation you cannot have a breakfast. The breakfast time is from 7:00 until 8:30 and you can choose the starting time. There are two types of breakfast: Japanese and Continental. During the breakfast you can drink freely coffee and black tea.

Getting There
By subway
The closest subway station is Shijo. It takes 8 minutes on foot to Watazen.

From Shijo station take the exit No. 13 and turn left at Starbucks Coffee into Yanaginobanba Street. Continue straight down and hotel is on the left after two intersections.

By train
The closest train station is Karasuma on Hankyu line. It takes 5 minutes on foot to Watazen.

Take the exit No.13 and turn left at Starbucks Coffee into Yanaginobanba Street. Continue straight down and hotel is on the left after two intersections.

Driving directions

From Meishin Highway, take exit signposted 'Kyoto-minami IC' continue straight on R1 towards north until the end and then turn right at Toji Temple. Go straight on Hachijyo Street towards east, turn left at Horikawa Street and then go north into Shijo-Kawaramachi. Turn right at Shijo Street, continue towards east and turn left at Starbucks Coffee Shop. After two intersections, Watazen is on the left.
Distance from the highway to our hotel is 8km.

From Meishin Highway, take exit signposted 'Kyoto-higashi IC' Go straight on Gojyo street (R9) towards west and turn right at Karasuma-Gojyo street towards north. After that turn right at Karasuma-Shijyo Street.Turn left at Starbucks Coffee Shop. After two intersections, Watazen is on the left. Distance from the highway to our hotel is 10km.

When taking a taxi, it is advisable to ask a driver for destination: Yanaginobanba, Takoyakushi agaru

Parking Info
Parking fee is 2000JPY for 24 hours.

In order to park your car, please follow our car until the parking building. You can park your car at any free parking apace on any floor of the building. Our staff will wait for you in front of the entrance and take you back to the Ryokan.
