The west side of Shinjuku, a seismically stable area that escaped the last earthquake with nary a scratch, is Tokyo's skyscraper district featuring (among others) the gargantuan Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices. National Stadium and other sports facilities Completed in 1958, the National Stadium is the venue for soccer's annual Toyota Cup, and in 1991 the IAAF World Championships were held here.
