Overview
Located above the snowline in dense forest in Victoria’s High Plains, 4km below Falls Creek Ski Resort, YMCA Howmans Gap Alpine Centre offers affordable accommodation for groups and families all year round in a secluded setting.

YMCA Howmans Gap Alpine Centre is close to the action that Falls Creek provides. In winter at Falls Creek there is cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowboarding, toboggans and more. For the rest of the year, Falls Creek is a great location for mountain biking, road cycling, fishing, bushwalking, wildflower spotting and relaxing.

We have two types of accommodation available:

(1) Main Accommodation Block:
Comfortable heated chalet-style accommodation for up to 158 people in rooms sleeping between two and seven people in bunk beds. These rooms have shared bathroom facilities. We have wheelchair access. Prices in the main accommodation block include fully catered meals with a continental and cooked breakfast (7:45am), cut lunch, and three course dinner (6:30pm - let us know if you will arrive late and we can put some dinner aside for you). We do cater for guests with dietary requirements, please let us know in advance. BYO alcohol. Pillows and blankets are supplied. You need to provide your own sheets and/or sleeping bag and towels, or you can hire them for $9.50 each(advance notice required).

(2) Self Contained Houses:
We have 2 self contained houses, the Melaleuca House and the Cedar House. You will need to provide your own meals in the houses. The houses are fully furnished, heated and have full cooking facilities. Houses sleep eight with one double bed and three sets of bunk beds. Spare mattresses are available. You need to provide your own sheets and/or sleeping bag for the bunk beds and towels, or you can hire them for $9.50 each(advance notice required). Separate bathroom and toilet. TV provided in houses is for watching movies (DVD player provided), no TV reception.

Facilities provided at YMCA Howmans Gap include a lounge room with plenty of comfy chairs and a fire place, TV (no recpetion) and DVD player. A games room with a pool table, table tennis tables, air hockey and foosball, half size basketball court and an oval. Two drying rooms to dry your gear out after a great day of skiing, heating in all rooms, a laundry (free of charge) and conference facilities are also on-site. The conference room and the dining room both have data projectors and screens and DVD players.

Business Facilities
We have a conference room that accommodates 60-80 seated guests. The room includes a data projector, DVD player, stereo and whiteboard facilities. The conference room is free of charge for guests staying with us.

During office hours we have printing and fax facilities and we have one computer with internet access available for guests in the office.

Getting There
Falls Creek is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes from Albury/Wodonga, 5 hours drive from Melbourne and a day’s drive from Sydney.

YMCA Howmans Gap is located on the main road of Falls Creek, Bogong High Plains Road. We are 4km below Falls Creek Village and 26km past Mt Beauty. We are on the left side of the road 100m before the Falls Creek Resort Entry Gates. Entry into Falls Creek requires paying a park entry fee (winter only).

Although in winter the roads are cleared of snow regularly, if you are driving during snow season it is compulsory to carry snow chains in your vehicle. You can hire snow chains from a number of places in Mt Beauty.

If your vehicle takes diesel, you should fill it up with Alpine Mix fuel, which you can get at the petrol stations in Mt Beauty. You should also check you have antifreeze in your radiator.

***No fuel is available at Falls Creek*** The closest petrol station is at Mt Beauty.

If you are not driving, there are several ways to get to Falls Creek:

Falls Creek Coach Services provide services to Falls Creek from Melbourne, Albury and Mt Beauty daily. Make sure you let them know you want to get off at Howmans Gap. Check their website for more information.

Or you can catch a train to Albury Train Station (trains from Melbourne and Sydney pass through Albury daily) or fly to Albury Airport, and then board a connecting Falls Creek Coach Service to Falls Creek or hire a car from Albury.

If you don’t have transport to/from Howmans Gap to Falls Creek, you can also use Falls Creek Coach Service who drive past a couple times a day (see their website for the timetable).

Parking Info
When you enter YMCA Howmans Gap, the driveway to the left goes to the car park. You then walk down stairs to the Howmans Gap facilities. The dining room is the first big building you will see on your left. The Office is the blue building with colour squares on your right down last set of stairs. The accommodation block is the L shape building on your left down the last set of stairs.

You are welcome to drive straight down the driveway and park in front of the accommodation block to unload first and then move car to the car park.

Guests staying the Melaleuca Self Contained House can park in the driveway directly in front of the house (turn first right, white building). For the Cedar Self Contained House, you need to park in the car park, the Cedar House is the first building on the left down the first set of stairs.
