These two stylish retreats provide luxury accommodation set in five acres of historic gardens.

Woolrich Retreat is a cottage with two bedrooms, one has a king size bed which can split into two singles, the other has a queen size bed. Each bedroom has an ensuite with cast iron bath; a separate Jacuzzi room with skylight to the stars is wonderfully relaxing; the lounge room has an open fireplace, flat screen TV, DVD player and books and DVDs are supplied. Art Deco features and fine furniture make it stylish and it has an AAA Tourism 4? Star rating. There is also a full kitchen with Miele appliances, and French windows leading to a deck where there is a BBQ and table and chairs for Alfresco dining. The cottage looks out onto a garden which leads your eyes to the distant dell which is fringed by one of the biggest weeping beeches in Victoria. Views of the distant ranges make this a beautiful place to sit.

The Garden Suite has three rooms, a bedroom, bathroom with spa/shower, and a lounge room with open fire. A balcony overlooks the woods and has a BBQ with table and chairs. It has a French Provence style and is new. Again the Miele appliances in the kitchen and the beautiful furnishings make this a memorable place to stay.

Both the suite and the cottage have central heating and air conditioning. They are located in woodlands and are next to Cloudehill, a marvellous five acre cultivated garden renowned both nationally and internationally with a restaurant to which there is free entry.

Olinda is one of the major villages of the hills. It is close to the winery district of Yarra Valley and Puffing Billy, a steam train which goes to Emerald. It is the centre of many famous gardens. Just along the road is the National Rhododendron Garden, there are many other national and private gardens which are open to the public. You can go and pick raspberries and strawberries in season, visit the trout farm, or see William Rickett's sanctuary where he created sculptures honouring the aborigines. It is a delight to shop in the villages which is full of all kinds of shops with unusual things for sale.

Getting There
To get to Woolrich, either take the South Eastern Freeway or the Eastern Freeway from the city. If you take the former road, turn off at Ferntree Gully Road and drive to Burwood Highway. If the latter come off at Burwood Highway. Once on Burwood Highway drive to Upper Ferntree Gully where you will see a sign under the old railway bridge for Olinda. Take that turnoff. When you arrive in Olinda instead of bearing left, turn right. Go past the golf course, the swimming pool and you come to Woolrich Road. Cloudehill is on the corner and has a green paling fence. Turn left here. The garden suite has a sign with a lyrebird. The Cottage, Woolrich Retreat is the next entrance. Parking is available for the Garden Sute under the verandah of the main drive. Parking is available for the cottage in its own driveway.
